Great bargain on a tight, deep sub
Martin-Logan is known for successful designs that make great speakers. The Dynamo 1000W is one of those. First, it has a flexible configuration: wired or wireless, adustable crossover at the subwoofer or LFE from your amp, phase (0, 90, 180) and level adjustments on the back, down-firing or front-firing. Second, Martin-Logan doesn't wildly oversell the dynamic response on their speakers; they really mean it when they say this will pump a solid 22Hz wave through your room, and you'll feel the lower effects, too! Third, it's nice and tight; it won't muddy up your favorite album, but it certainly gives Godzilla: King of Monsters a powerful stomp! There's only one thing I'd change: the wireless can't be turned off, and the blue blinky light on the back is quite noticeable. This is now an older model, so it's available at quite the bargain price. Get it while you can!

Give it time to break-in
Got the Martin Logan (ML) 1000W with 12” woofer and 500W amp to use for audio, not home theatre. Initially pairing with Rogers LS3-5A’s (original BBC monitors) and later on Acoustat model 3’s (which are in process of being upgraded). Have a Velodyne 18” servo subwoofer with integrated 1500W amp in home theatre room and was hoping not to have to swap subs. Since I’m interested in audio use, I set the sub up for front firing operation with LS3-5A’s and originally all I got was home theatre boom :-( Disappointed, but decided not to place final judgement until I got ML recommended 50 hr break-in under its belt. Left system on for about 8-10 hrs a day at a minimum level needed to get the wireless signal to remotely turn on the sub. Listened a couple of times randomly across 2 weeks, while adjusting crossover setting. Still not getting there and then finally….. mid bass appeared and boom disappeared!!! Final adjustment included turning the subs volume down not to overwhelm the Rogers. Have since critically listened multiple times and this is indeed and audio quality sub!! Now very pleased with its performance, so much so that I ordered a second unit to explore what benefit, if any, stereo sub operation may enhance system performance. For the price this is an amazing, audio quality sub, but be patient and let it break-in! If you want home theatre dynamics this should be more than capable as it’s a beast. Yet it can also provide audio quality operation, a harder task IMHO. Highly recommended for the price!! Get one before they are gone and you need to pay double for a comparable ‘newer’ ML model.

*A subwoofer with a serious "Napoleon Complex"
I am a simple lover of music who was in the market for new speakers for my old Hafler amps. I eventually pieced together a set of Boston Acoustics RS260's bookshelf speakers with one of these little brutes, and in a word, I was simply STUNNED by the performance of this little subwoofer! My sound room is a little more than 22'x23' with moderately high ceilings, and this subwoofer handled anything from my favorite Miles Davis cuts to the deep bass tracks of MOBB Deep with such power, dexterity, and detail that I am now contemplating the insane idea of buying another one. I must admit, I was torn between this model and a comparable equivalent in the Velodyne line of products, however, after doing a little research and talking to one of the Martin Logan representatives over the phone (great people by the way), I decided to take a chance... of course, the price point of under $1000 didn't hurt either. Simply put, in terms of price, performance, quality of construction (this thing is built like a tank!), and versatility of placement/configuration(see the Martin Logan Website - [...]), this subwoofer has all the muscle and attitude to take on any of the other competitors products (many of which cost in excess of 2x the price). Moreover, its made in the good old U.S.A. - how about that folks!!ATTENTION: This Subwoofer is no joke!

Not Satisfied (Old Production Model)
I currently own a Martin Logan "New" Dynamo 700 which I rate 5 stars. Based on my experience with the "new" Dynamo 700 I decided to order the Dynamo 1000 in March 2012 for my small home theater room. Strike one: The model I received was a pre August 2011 production model and did not include the wireless adapter for free. Strike two: The seals that hold the subwoofer cover in place when changing from front firing to forward firing were loose. Strike three: The subwoofer was connected to a Yamaha RX-A2000 by LFE and never went into standby mode. Eight hours of not receiving a signal and the subwoofer was still on and not in standby mode. In comparison the "new" Dynamo 700 went into stand mode within 30 minutes of not receiving a signal. That was enough for me to return this subwoofer back to Amazon. The Dynamo 1000 sounded louder than my Dynamo 700. I have my "new" Dynamo 700 level set at 12 o'clock but the Dynamo 1000 only needed to be set at 0900 and it was loud. I can't comment on the quality of the sound because I didn't keep it for the 50 hours run time needed before judging quality of the sub. The Martin Logan website lists both a "New" Dynamo 1000 and a discontinued Dynamo 1000. From researching the web it appears that models produced after August 2011 are the "New" Dynamo 1000 and some differences include: updated software, wireless in included, modified subwoofer back plate amp to eliminate the "pop" you hear when it's turned off. Perhaps if I had received a post Aug 2011 model I would have been as happy with this sub as I am with my "New" Dynamo 700. A review of the Dynamo 1000 on a home theater website in Sep 11 gave the quality of sound a great review but did mention a software issue that Martin Login said would fixed with future models. Note: Amazon refunded my account quickly (two days after receiving the unit back). Great customer service from Amazon as usual.
