Great question. All activated carbons contain phosphates no matter what they claim. This is due to the trapped ash deep within the carbon's pores. We use a phosphate free cleaning solution to deep clean the macro and micro pores or our activated carbon. This process removes a tremendous amount of additional trapped ash. The nature of activated carbon with it deep pores makes impossibly at this time to remove all the ash. When using in dry situations, can these pellets be “recharged”/dried out again by placing in the sun?

30 years in the carbon/filtration business. NO. That reactivation in sunlight is pure BS. There is a tiny bit of fact in exposing carbon to UV to destroy adsorbed organics but it has nothing to do with consumer carbon use. You'll spend more money trying to heat up used carbon than it costs to replace it. No, the oven at home is not hot enough to volatilize the trapped organics. This is all really old aquarium lore...pre-internet actually.
