What type of brush should I use to get the actual stencil? I used a foam and medium sized brush but it just bled under the cheap, thin stencil?

To prevent bleeding under the stencil, first stencil the same color as your background. Leave in place until this first coat has dried. This will seal the stencil and prevent bleeding. Then apply your stencil color.

How do you prevent bleeding under the stencil?

You can spray the back of your stencil with a spray adhesive that is repositionable before drying. This will work on wood, glass, ceramic, but not on paper. I use that when working on vertical surfaces such as a glass window or a door. After cleaning, your stencil will remain a bit tacky, but storing it on piece of plastic will keep it in good shape for reuse.

Can you use these for cake or pies?

I think you can. They are plastic and using powdered sugar as a stencil would work on a cake

Can these be used with texture paste on paper?

You can always try. They are so intricate that a bit of patience may be required as your creativity grows. These are the same thickness of my stencils I use texture paste on. I just haven’t used texture paste with these …yet I’m so pleased with mistakenly buying these . I can cover Soo much more surface when I eco-dye paper(s).
