Q: Can these carabiners be used as load-bearing clips when I go hiking?

I used these to clip items to my backpack on a 5 day trek in Colorado this summer. They worked great for attaching loose items like extra water bottles, bedroll, and cookware to my backpack. I never tried them with a heavy load.

Q: Do you get one of each of these colors or just some various mishmash of colors and hope for the best?

Yes. My package had several colors of key chain carabiners and two pcs each of those colors.
