I think aluminum if not metal. Not plastic for sure. This chair is strong. Great buy. With knobs to tighten you are comfortable with your child in it.

How much of a lip (how many inches from the edge inwards) on the table is required for the clamps to be secured?

I have a table that only has a 2inc lip, this chair has been safe. Baby is 21lbs. Can't respond with more info than that. Hope that helps.

My daughter is two, can she sit in this chair?

Absolutely, it’s deep and wide enough. Folds up, I absolutely love mine! Washes well too!
