Hi Jessica, The one that I purchased only had the one inserted into the handle, it suggested to purchase 2 additional filters for an additional cost, but I only purchased the shower head and hose. On my purchase it didn't suggest that it would come with additional filters. Double check the advertised item and if it claims that additional filters come with it, I would make them supply it. Yes, you have to replace the filter. Changing the cartridge after at least every 6 months will ensure the optimal performance of the shower head.

Q: I'm wondering if the filter removes copper from the water?
