Works great on rugs and bare floors. It's okay for deeper carpet if you have a small area. Wish it had a general purpose attachment for the hose, you get the end of the hose, crevice tool or upholstery brush.

I love this lightweight vacuum, it has a long cord which is great and picks up well.You can also use other attachments to clean in corners and for using on my couch as well. I recommend this vacuum highly. Easy to clean and replace the filters. I prefer a cord than cordless never work well.

This is the best vacuum for uncarpeted areas that I’ve ever had. It is lightweight and easy to use. Our 56 year old son recommended it, I ordered it, and my husband assembled it. At 84, I wear my Floppi’s for support while vacuuming. My husband sweeps every day with the excellent broom we bought from Amazon; but has never used the vacuum, probably because he doesn’t want to get it out of the utility room cabinet.We still have a big Hoover? vacuum we purchased from Sears years ago before there was Amazon..

This may not be the most powerful vacuum you can buy, but for our house a vacuum that is very easy to use will pick up more because it actually gets used - rather than one that is so awkward to use that carpets and floors don't get cleaned as often as needed.This Shark Upright replaced our *second* Eureka Boss - which I am still not sure why we purchased. They were heavy and awkward to maneuver. Switching modes and attachments was a hassle. Replacing the bags was a pain. We kept having to buy replacement hoses because they were prone to splitting. The power cords endlessly tangled to the point where we cinched them and then used a different extension cord.This may sound like a review for Eureka Boss, but the point is this Shark is happily the opposite of all that:- The power cord does not twist and tangle.- Changing from carpet mode to floor mode is a quick push of a button.- Changing to hose/wand mode is very intuitive, and the brush attachment and the "needle nose" attachment are one-and-the same: you just flip it around instead of fumbling/switching from one attachment to the other.- No bags to run out of, or to realize you are picking up nothing because the bag is full and you can't see it. Yes, the Shark canister fills up fairly quickly, but with no bag hassles you can empty it in about a minute and with minimal dust fly .- It is very light and maneuverable and easy to move from first to second floor, etc. My only comment here is that it does feel a little tipsy, but at the same time it does not seem to tip over very easily.To circle back around to the suction power question: I could say it is not as powerful as some others, but I continue to be surprised at how powerful it is for its size. I also can say so far it has been plenty powerful enough as we have used it this week on carpets, floors, and along floorboards.We just love it. I hope it holds up over time so we continue to think of it as a 5 star purchase, and we may even buy a second one.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this vacuum cleaner!My old vacuum finally died and the first time I used this I was amazed at what it picked up. I have 50/50 split in my house of hardwood and carpeting. It worked beautifully on both.The first time I used it on my carpets, I had to stop and empty the dust cup for each room! No, it's not that the dust cup is small -- it actually holds as much if not more than the bags of my previous vacuum -- it's just that it sucked up SO much more than the old one missed.Now that I've used it multiple times I don't have to empty the dust cup nearly as much.I do have two dogs and need a good vacuum. So VERY pleased with this. Easy to assemble (a few clicks here and there), SO easy to maneuver, lightweight and responsive to touch, and powerful! A+++++

I have had shark vacuums for years. They are dependable and long lasting for vacs at the cheaper end. That said, I'm disappointed. I'm trying to replace my one we used upstairs, which broke recently. Since my other vacuum is getting older, I decided to just get a new one for downstairs. I recently replaced my carpets downstairs, with washable ones, because of our pets. They are a lighter weight fabric, but practically all you can get on Amazon. My older shark worked fine, I just needed to adjust the suction.First I picked up a shark locally, but when I tried it, a few seconds after it came in contact with the new rugs, it turned itself off. I adjusted the suction, but when it's light enough to go over the rug, it doesn't pick up the dirt. I put it back in the box, and plan on returning it this week, but in the meantime I ordered this one. It came today, and it's even worse. I guess that means the suction is good, but it's pretty useless. There's no way to adjust the suction, so it just stops. I guess I'm done with shark.
