Perfect choice for anyone who flew fixed wing years ago and wants to “test the waters” again!
I really liked the option of the wing slats as it gives such a noticeable difference in stable slower landings and takeoffs. I also like the shorter wings because the airplane has a snappier response than a more conventional wing and the control surfaces are almost 1/3rd of the trailing edge of the wing! The cons that I have noticed are #1 how weak the landing gear mounting points are at the fuselage (the plastic mount is extremely thin and brittle inside the foam out of sight). #2 the foam tundra tires come loose from the wheels (I have glued mine back onto the rims a couple of times already over the course of approximately 40 landings). #3 the battery compartment is a bit snug for the standard/common 4S 2200 battery (the 3S and the slightly more expensive longer flatter 4S fit much better).

Great plane but is not for beginners.
I'm getting back into flying and I like my Timber X already. Ever control is large and I used the heavy spar on tail surface. I'm using 4 cell 2200 and it balances to backside of recommended and fly's good there.

great all around fun airplane
2 of my friends have the older model of this plane and they love them. I bought the newer more powerful shorter wing version of the Timber. I like the shorter wing because I can load it in my car without taking the wing off.I also like the more power on 4S batteries. It is a fun airplane to fly and has a lot more capability than I can use.

E-Flite packaging is usually really good. This time, not so much
My Timber x arrived damaged with clear signs of rough handling. One of the Aileron servo horns was broken off due to shifting in the damaged box. E-flite wanted to replace the servo horn, which would require me to cut into the wing, which I was unwilling to attempt. They sent me two wing halves + the wing stickers which required me to install 4 servos plus stickers, which again was totally unacceptable. I thought they'd send me a replacement wing and they were sending a science experiment. All I wanted was a new wing- like the one that should have arrived. Anyway, Amazon was totally okay with the return- refunding upon return receipt. E-flite should try harder.

Fun toy after servo was fixed
The plane is a blast to fly, although to start with the elevator had a broad neutral and was not the easiest to fly. After Horzion hobby replace the servo's all is good. Also bought the floats which I have yet to try.

Great plane but......
A must have for a fixed wing hobbyist. Very well constructed. Only drawback is no consideration for FPV and setting that up was challenging. Had a successful maiden today and this thing just want's to fly.Edit:After having this a while I have found an issue that diminishes the experience considerably. A somewhat rough landing will damage the gear retainers. They are ABS plastic parts that probably cost a quarter to make. At first they were only available in set of 'Timber assorted parts', most of which I won't use because they are for the float gear and are $17. These things break all the time and that's not a bad thing (something has to give and if it were a cheap part......) if replacing them were not a rip off. I see now there is s sku for just the 2 retainers for $3-$6 but they are sold out EVERYWHERE, ALL THE TIME. Furthermore beware the sites claiming inventory with outrageous shipping. They are trying to harvest your password and email address so they can hack you. E-flight should make available the cadd files so their customers can print these parts. Customers would buy more planes then and not be turned off on the hobby due to greed but companies don't see it like that. I won't buy anything from E-flight again if this is what to expect.

Not really a beginners model, go for 1.5 m Timber with Safe
I disliked that on its maiden flight the aileron hinge and control horn pulled out of the wing causing a crash and structural damage. Fortunately I am not a beginner and had the ability and gorilla glue to repair it. For a beginner I thing the use of a 3S battery is essential. With a 4S it is very fast and highly aerobatic.Am editing my first review for two main reasons. My first Timber tore the whole landing gear off the fuselage on landing. As there was extensive damage to the wing when the landing gear broke. I put it aside for future repair and purchased another. Again on maiden flight the aileron control horns came out of the wing in flight. I fly on a grass runway and even with the Tundra tires the landing gear breaks off on landing ripping lumps out of the fuselage. My feeling re E Flite is that their product control is poor and design of landing gear is poor. If you can once get it in the air it is a delight to fly even if you only get one flight before structural damage

Ease of assembly and flying
EFLITE continues its long line of successful RC aircraft with the new Timber x 1.2 STOL and 3D flying machine. Large tires make those off runway operations fun and a piece of cake. Every part fits perfectly and you have plenty of power to take it thru its paces. The leading edge slats are a plus for low speed flight and the extra steel horizontal tail rod gives greater safety and performance when going 3D. Congrats on another well-designed RC.
