Superb Grade B sci-fi but at a price....
I have been trying to find this movie for years. While available occasionally in European format, it has been strangely absent from the US market for years. I bought this DVD at what seems an outrageous price because it was a US format. The DVD was in fact flawless and was 2 sided with some extras. The movie was as spectacular as I remembered and the Hammer production was superb. I only gave 4 stars because I fail to understand why this admittedly B grade sci-fi movie should command such a premium price when other similar Hammer movies go for $9.99 or less on bargain sites. We used to see this film on late night fright sites all the time but it disappeared years ago. Guess I should have taped it!

Worth the wait!
When I first ordered this back in march it was due to be out sometime in late spring, then it wa changed to july 30th but I'm glad I waited.I saw this movie a few times when I was kid on a b/w tv and never new it was in color till I saw it on TCM channel, but there copy was grainy and the colors washed out and towards the end it swiched from widescreen to a small letterboxed screen. This Blu-Ray release is awesome. They did a great job restoring it and the colors are crisp and vibrant in widescreen format. There is a sound option you have to set manually to 5.1 surround with stereo as the default. An added bonus I discovered by accident if you look at the outside sleave through the plastic when you open the case you will see that the back is printed with the U.S. release 5 million years to earth.I just slid it out, turned it over and put it back into place. If you are a fan of older sci-fi this Blu-Ray release is worth buying.

Well Done All Around!
One of my all time favorite science fiction films! Although it would be considered a low budget production by today standards, it is verywell done. It is more of a thinking persons film, no glaring sound track, no CGI overkill. This was written as a story, not just a fill infor special effects. If you want something with some meat on the bone, rather than fluff, this is your kind of film.If you can get the Blu-ray version, clearer crisper deeper images and vivid richer colors.

This movie is a lost gem
I, like many people, saw this movie on TV back in the 70s, it aired on CBS, I remember it totally blew me away as its next level sci fi especially for the time. There is something both disturbing and enthralling about this film. It has aged very well, the special effects are good, the acting is excellent and the progression of the story just grabs you and pulls you in. The Blue Ray transfer is very good in my opinion, good color and a sharp image. Sound is excellent. Its kind of interesting that this movie came out the same year that 2001; a space odyssey did, and the story is similar, one movie has become a classic , but this has been largely forgotten by all but those of us who have seen it. I think Steven Speilberg must have watched this movie, because the musical score at the very start of the film is similar to the beginning of close encounters (watch it and you will see what I am talking about). I also wonder if this is where Steven King got the idea for Tommyknockers. At any rate its a nice disk and if you liked this movie you should buy it.

What's in the pit?
Finally a region A Blu Ray for Quatermass and the Pit coming from Shout Factory. The Blu Ray is excellent and loaded with extras. The movie is simply one of the best SciFi movies of the golden age of the 50's-60's. Seen in America under the title Five Million Years to Earth, the movie is an intelligent scifi film that does a great job of building the tension throughout as military and science clash on what to do. What's in the pit? Nearly every idea is thrown against the wall including ape men, imps, ghosts, dwarfs, martians, mind control, possession, black magic, witchcraft, a Nazi secret weapon, and the Devil himself. In a lesser movie this many possibilities could lead to a muddled mess and an unsatisfying conclusion. But this is no ordinary movie. The movie picks up speed as the Scifi movie's final 15 minutes hurtles directly into a Horror movie conclusion. Thank you Shout Factory.

Paranormal Sci-Fi Action
One of my favorite sci-fis, I have watched this movie 4 or 5 times. There is very little about it that is uncredible, at least conceptual-wise. A remake in modern times with updated technology might improve the story, if the cast is as good as this, and if they don't try to make technology the focus (which is the demise of many remakes and sequels). Right up the alley of the X-Files.

Blu Ray review
After waiting for years for this film to appear in a Blu Ray format I have to say I am beyond pleased. This is a great film from Hammer so for it's fans I need not review the movie. The Blu Ray presentation is outstanding in every way. Beautiful picture quality. Most of you probably have never seen this film (also known as Five Million Years to Earth) except on broadcast television or DVD. You will be amazed at how great it looks on Blu Ray.

Quatermass III: 10 Years Later Now On Blu-ray From Scream Factory
Scream Factory releases the third Hammer Films entry in this series, "Quatermass and The Pit"(1967) , released 10 years after the second and now starring Andrew Keir as a proper British Quatermass, in a superb HD transfer, porting over the old Anchor Bay DVD extras, and a slew of new ones, including ten on-camera interviews and a further two commentaries, all worthwhile.Best of the three films is a must have for fans.

be careful of where you buy your disk's from as they may not be for your area.
This disk would have been OK if it was playable in the United Kingdom.I am still waiting for them to return my money after sending back the disk. This particular vendor is based in the United States and does not sell disk's that play on UK players.

Not Working
I was looking forward to seeing this movie, but the DVD simply would not load, very poor quality.

Arguably one of the best Hammer films
Arguably one of the best Hammer films. A very strong, articulate script and story still make this gripping viewing. Only some of the sets date it slightly. Very good.

Quatermass rules!
The 3rd, and best, Quatermass film gets a great release on this Anchor Bay DVD. Image transfer is solid, the audio 5:1 soundtrack is very effective, and gives another dimension to the viewing experience. The commentary track with Nigel Kneale (author/screenplay) and Roy Ward Baker (director) is informative and quite moving as the 2 men reminisce and look back at the making of this classic piece of British sci-fi. Overall, a must see for fans of the genre.
