Pretty great value
Given the price point, I really can't say anything bad at all for this drum set. It arrived well packaged, with each piece wrapped in cardboard, protective wraps or in sealed baggies. Often with value products, you open them only to find some vital part missing that you either have to reorder or try to make do without, so I was pleasantly surprised to find all items as expected, plus an extra large and small bolt included. As others have mentioned, it is weird that after all the meticulous packaging that they decide to omit even the most rudimentary assembly instructions, but I found I could figure it out how to assemble without them in about 30 minutes of construction (no extra tools needed). Even if it gets out of hand, there are instructions various places online. There was one problematic part where I discovered that the upper hi-hat stand connector rod had it's inner threading sheared off before I ever tried to attach it, much as if someone had previously used and tried to force the part, but it didn't seem otherwise scratched, so I'm guessing it was a bad mold pour(?). I've jerry-rigged it for now until I decide to buy a replacement hi-hat stand, but of course it's things like this that cause frustration.Finish is clean and glossy, fit is decent as much as I expected. Chrome hardware parts were built solidly. The shells sounds really pretty consistent once tuned with decent heads (I consider heads to be somewhat akin to guitar strings - a part to replace reasonably frequently, so I didn't care about the shipped head quality). Cymbals are weak, but usable as a starter set. Throne is pretty basic - sore rear after 30 minutes without an additional cushion! Sticks are throwaway. For a full size set I was hoping for a lot, but expecting not much - that said, I really think the manufacturer should be proud of their workmanship.A five thousand dollar rig it ain't, but for entry level fun (and then some) it really can't be beat (pun intended)!

Great full-size beginner kit, needs a few upgrades if you stick with playing!
Bought this set for our 10-year old to hammer out some stress, then after a few months of persistence, got him drum lessons as he seemed to want to stick with it! It's been about 3 mos. in lessons now & we are definitely happy with this set......it DOES NEED some add-ons to improve it's overall sound and functionality (great review by "By Amazon Customer on December 13, 2004" gives great suggestions on head-upgrades & I bought a good rack-kit (below) on Amazon). We definitely noticed a difference in the sound as out drum instructor has a set of pearl drums (birch wood with evans heads and higher quality cymbals); our kid was practicing less at home because he noticed the sound difference and enjoyed it less at home. We also noticed we needed to move the toms and cymbals to better positions - thus needing a rack. Racks, like Gibraltar, can run a minimum of $250 via Amazon, even more in a local music store! I found this rack by EDM and clamps that were a GREAT deal and really upgraded the way the kit sits for playing: DRUM RACK KIT - SINGLE - 3 SECTIONS 48x1.5" CHROME with Clamps Feet HIGH QUALITY - Sold by: EDM $89.99. It is chrome, and 1.5" the SAME as Gibraltar and will even fit Gibraltar clamps, but EDM also sells lower-cost clamps at half the cost (2 clamps per $27-29). Bonus, this rack can grow with him for future drum set improvements & add-ons! My next upgrade will be the snare (this snare is a little weak, especially for rim-shots), but I'm taking baby steps as I want to see if he sticks with the lessons.All-in-all, this is a REALLY kit for a beginner. I think if our kid sticks with it for OVER 1 year, I'd be looking at going to a local music store (or through our drum instructor's connections) and buy a quality wood-set and spend a little more (this will cost you prolly $800 for a GOOD quality set & heads). Not cheap, but if you have a REAL budding drummer and want them to enjoy the sound of what they play, I think a set like that is worth the investment (later on, after diligence!!).I would say this set if for beginners only - if you are a discerning drummer with some experience I think this kit will leave you wanting a bit more (and by the time you upgrade heads, stands and maybe rack, you'll be spending over $400), so you might want to go for a bit higher quality brand name set -- FYI, this set has NO branding anywhere, it is truly generic.

Got this for a christmas present for my 9 year old son. He is a really big kid and so we didnt want to get a kids set that might not fit him, and he couldn't grow into. This one is perfect for him. It works great. It looks great. Sounds great. He is having so much fun with it.

Not the best
Looks okay in person but its definitely smaller in person that for kids not for an adult to play, If you want something to pratcie on or you play hard this isnt the drum set. It will fsal apart on you. IMO...
