Caps are universal. Standard and wide mouth is all you need to know. So, yes it will indeed fit a 32 oz.

Would this lid fit on a 40oz wide mouth Hydroflask water bottle?

It does,but you should be aware it's a tight fit. I put mine on a 32oz wide mouth bottle and it seals tight and does not leak when knocked over or held upside down. But putting the lid on and taking it off can be difficult.
