Great underwater photos and videos, no leaks.
Bought the D30 to replace my old Canon A95 Powershot (5MP) with an expensive dive case that I used to dive with. That camera finally died, and the expensive waterproof case will only fit that particular model. I was able to dive to 130 feet using the waterproof case. You can only go to 82 feet with the D30, but it's pretty rare these days where we dive deeper than 80 feet. We always get a dive briefing before we jump into the water, so if I know it is going to be a deeper dive, I'll just leave the camera on the boat. Just returned from vacation and got to try out this camera for the first time. I was a little concerned after reading a lot of reviews where people reported their camera leaked. I brought the camera on four dives down to 70 feet, and brought it snorkeling and took lots of photos above ground as well. Used it in underwater mode for all dives and snorkeling and was very impressed with the quality of the underwater photos and videos. The underwater mode did a great job at taking out the blue cast on both still photos and videos. I used to dive with a Canon A95 camera in an expensive waterproof case, and I would have to photo shop all of the dive photo's afterwards to take out the blue cast, which worked well, but was very time consuming. The D30 is SO much less bulky to carry rather than my old Canon in an underwater case. No need to photoshop these photos at all. I was happy with the quality on land as well. It was nice to be able to take the camera on the beach and not worry about sand or water. I still brought my other Canon for land photos (model SX200 IS), but only took a couple of photos with it because I was very happy with the quality of the D30 photos. Probably wouldn't bother bringing both cameras again on an island trip. I am wondering if Canon fixed the issues with leaking, or if I was just lucky and got a good camera that didn't leak, or if mine didn't leak because I made sure to never open the camera on the beach or when it was damp, when I needed to change the memory card or battery. All it would take is one grain of sand in the battery/memory card seal for it to leak so you have to be careful. You also have to be just as ultra careful if you are using the setup I was using before with a camera and an underwater case. They say when using an underwater case, it's not a matter of "IF" your camera will flood, but "WHEN". I was always anal taking care of that underwater case and never had a leak after diving with it for 10 years.

and even though some of the others were obviously better, I went with this one
I compared this with other brands, and even though some of the others were obviously better, I went with this one. I've been a long time Canon owner and have always liked the usability and reliability of their cameras. This one hasn't disappointment in that respect. It's built very well and definitely can handle some abuse. I use it as my "carry everywhere" camera since I live in an area that gets a lot of rain, it's nice not to have to worry. The display is bright and easy to read, menus are easy to navigate, and there are enough options/special effects to make it fun to use. Video quality is fine and the audio quality is actually pretty good. Image quality can be very good outdoors with good light. Indoors is another story. I find it can struggle with white balance indoors and, like many P&S cameras, can be a little aggressive with the noise reduction. Overall I definitely recommend the D30. If you're looking for an underwater/tough camera this is certainly an option to consider.

Canon Powershot D30 Waterproof Digital Camera
I purchased this camera in March 2016. I used it in May at Stingray City in Grand Cayman, no snorkeling but it did get wet. It takes fairly good pictures and is easy to use. The rubber grip on the front makes it easy to hold and the operation is simple. Fast forward to June. I was attempting to take pictures of grandchildren in the water. Keep in mind this is only the second time I have used this camera. I took just a few pictures and the LCD screen went black. I couldn't see what I was shooting, which made the camera useless. I did get a few pictures by just blindly pointing the camera. But it was a big disappointment. When I came home I opened the compartments expecting to find water, but all the compartments were dry. I turned the camera over and water came out the disp. button. I have mailed the camera to the repair center and I will see what happens. I won't purchase another camera like this ever again. It wasn't an expensive camera, but way too expensive for having been used only twice and getting just a few pictures.

A reliable camera
This is to replace a D20 that died and was returned for warranty. The D-30 is the latest generation of Canon's underwater digital cameras and while it doesn't couple with a microscope as well as the D-10, it has a better design than the D-20. I got very good underwater shots on my first use in the Florida Keys. The camera performed well and the pics shot in underwater macro mode had excellent resolution. On this model Canon dispensed with the clip-on boss that held the wrist strap in place. This is easy to use one-handed. It is worthwhile to have some backup batteries charged if you're in a situation where you will be shooting a lot of pics. For casual use in air, it works fine though the pictures taken at maximum digital zoom tends to be a little fuzzy.

Best small portable camera
Ease of operation - I can hand it to a stranger and they can catch a photo of my handstand with no training Durability - Accommodates drops and underwater use I've owned 6 of them and take three on my international travels. One was lost and another stolen from my checked baggage in Morocco airport check-in. One was damaged in a one foot drop climbing Mt Niragonda in DR Congo because the lens directly hit a sharp rock. Normally 6 ft drops on hard surfaces do not damage the operation. Simplicity with all the important features. Fits in my pocket or hangs on my wrist even when sky diving. Point and shoot is great. I think it needs a lot of light to work best. Takes too long to focus in very low light.

Fantastic camera, especially for the price. Great auto modes, and works flawlessly underwater. Many people have commented on the quality of underwater pictures. I had it down to about 90' (accidentally) and it held up pefectly over 5 days of diving.

I love this camera. It is easy to use and zoom and video. Great quality shots. Since I bought it for beach time, it is also very durable and water proof. Fun to look at what is under the ocean.

I've had this product less than 2 months, and only taken it on 2 dives (shallow: less than 8 meters/20ft). On a snorkel, I noticed water behind the screen. After ringing it in fresh water, and drying it, I opened the battery/SD compartment (it was ”sealed") to find drops of salt water had gotten in. The battery was beginning to corrode. I attempted to clean it out, and left it open to dry out. I'm in Australia, touring the Great Barrier Reef, and have no dive camera. Extremely disappointing. Amazon will not return it, as it's been more than 30 days, and I haven't got the original packaging with me. Canon's website has been, thus far, unhelpful.

This is the second Canon Power Shot I have purchased. I purchased this one because of the waterproof feature. It is a bit slower taking the picture which when you are on a tour bus and trying to get that quick shot it doesn't always make it. Otherwise it is nice and compact to fit in a shoulder bag and a wrist strap for safety.

Worked great until just before the warranty ran out, then it died. Did not expect that from a canon camera, not really impressed
