Not sure on crystal to be honest, this item is very very small though.

Is the central down wire made of plastic or metal as we don’t have an earth connection?

This is a chandelier and no electrical wiring etc is supplied. It just screws onto your existing light fittings.

how long does this light shade take to assemble

Not long, my 10 year old daughter did it so it wasn't hard to assemble. Hope this helps.
