A great, unique guitar!
Amazing and beautiful instrument! I remember going with friends to a shop back in the 90s and trying out an older Fender model, falling in love with it, and knowing that I would probably never be able to afford to own one. This is just as great as I remembered that one, and a fraction of the price! Such fun to play and experiment with what it's unique sound profile can do. Absolutely recommend it to anyone looking to step slightly outside the box.

It plays like and feels like a Fender.
It plays and feels like a Fender. I was blown away by the quality feel of the neck, action and tone.I’ve owned (and then returned) Squires in the past and they had basic quality in production issues. The frets were too wide, fret buzz up high, the switches either popping off or too easy to move; the slightest touch from a finger and I’d change pickups mid song. This might be one on a million. But it’s great.I’ve ownwed Telecaster Player series (Mexican Made) 4.2/5*… two of them…..I’ve owned Strats Professional Series ($1399) 2 of them.Another American made Strat with upgraded maple jumbo feet neck with 70’s headstock. American made… 5/5*.This in right up there 4.3/5*.The two Squire’s that ive had were between 1.5-2.5.This is certainly the gem.One thing…. It’s heavy. Why that surprised me I don’t know. But it did.Get a thick strap or just sit with it.I love the bass. Super fun to tinker

ALMOST Perfect!
New 2022 model. I love everything about this instrument - with one exception (more later). I've never played a bass with single-coil pickups. As a result, it doesn't have the deep P-Bass tones, but it sounds so springy, defined, and precise. I've always avoided instruments with "extra" strings. This is different. This is a bass and a guitar at the same time. It's like every 6-string guitar that's ever been, but one full octave lower, making it an actual bass. It's the same 4 string bass as all the others, but adds the 2 "missing" strings on the high end of a guitar. It has 3 single-coil pickups that can be switched into any configuration you can dream up. It has a cool bass-cut option that's fun to experiment with, and a whammy bar (on a bass!). I love that you can play full guitar chords on it. If fact, almost anything you can do on a guitar you can do here too, with a lot of pressure! It would be perfect, BUT... the intonation problem is real. The bridge, in my opinion, is not aligned to the instrument properly. It was installed straight across, perpendicular to the strings, when it should have been angled slightly, providing a slightly longer scale length on the low side. This would allow for proper intonation of both the low-E and the A strings (especially with lighter, lower-gauge strings). My solution was to order a wider aftermarket bridge ($100+, but easy enough that ANYONE can do it) designed specifically to fix this issue by allowing more room for adjusting the saddles. It's a perfect fix, but it's also a significant (and expensive) modification to have to do to a new instrument. It's great now, but it should have been this good out of the box.

Wow!
I have a P bass, a Mustang Shortscale, and a IVY "viola" bass (good). Trying to find something that inspires play. I ordered this one in black. Despite scary holes in box, it came in very good condition. No sharp frets, and few high frets. Nut was close. I swapped to La Bella VI flats. Intoneates on the low E.The combo of super-smooth strings and 6 strings....it's really something. I'm still dialing down the action to as low as possible, but it's already crazy fun compared to my other basses, which also have good strings. The 6 strings let you run lines which seem out of the question. It makes many tones. I thought cowboy chords would be meh.....oh no. They sound quite fresh, and even up there....no stretch for normal hands. It would be the last bass I sell....or that's my thinking right now anyway ;)

This isn't a bass, nor a guitar, but it fills a need.
First off, I've got a Fender reissue Bass VI that I got in the mid 90s, MIJ (Japan). The Squier is a decent instrument but in nowhere near the same league as my MIJ Bass VI. Why did I buy it then? I use these in church mostly, and occasionally in different bands usually with a reverb/tremolo pedal into a clean bass amp.Gets that early/mid 60s baritone sound but it's not really a baritone. It's a bass but tuned one octave down instead of 2. I can play guitar lines, and the strangle switch works great into like a Fender Princeton Reverb where you don't want to harm the 10" speaker. This is my second Squier from Amazon, the first one was delivered in an open box and NOT in mint/new shape. It had some problems from most likely bouncing around opened for a couple of days. As an added bonus UPS left a huge box with SQUIER on it on my porch (against the door no less) for the better part of a day, unsigned. If I would have been home, I'd knocked the box over opening the door. I expect better from Teamsters.I send that one back and received a second of, which was $379 (and tax, with free shipping/returns) that I found instead of $499.00 like the origional. The second one it said had a HUGE scratch which was only in the plastic on the pickguard I removed, and it in new unplayed condition. Oh, and using the Amazon card, it's 6 months or a year payments same as cash. Not that I need to do that on a $379 instrument, but it's cool they do that. The first Squier bass VI I received had much nicer fretwork then the second one which has a good bit of fret sprout which I'll clean up when I set it up.How does it compare to my MIJ Bass VI? It doesn't. Nor should it, this is a under $500 instrument comparing to a $1500 one. The Squier though, once I get it dialed in will be the Bass VI I use outside of home. One I won't worry about if anything happens to it.
