Total Diplomacy: The Art of Winning RISK

Good Book for the Serious Risk Player
If you like Risk, you will enjoy this book. I have been playing the game for over 40 years and intuitively, over the playing of hundreds of games during these years, learned many of the strategies, tactics, and negotiating arts presented in this book. Even so, I did find a few tidbits that I will definitely employ at my next Annual Risk Tournament (the 31st). The only negative thing about the book is that it apparently did not come under the eyes of a good editor as there are numerous grammatical errors throughout the text. Nevertheless, one can ignore the grammar problems and still gather several tips that will help you beat your friends as you go on to rule the world.

Finally - A Book About Risk
This book uses a clever style and historical anecdotes to introduce and reinforce teh basic strategies of the venerable board game Risk. The author assumes that the bulk of the game can be won or lost on strategic negciations, which is accurate, but only when playing face to face in a room with other more established players. I wish he would have included more information about the on line and computer environments. Some of the diagrams are hard to follow due to gray-scale shading, but it's a nice read for those who want to go much deeper than the included instructions of the board game.

More than just for Risk
Total Diplomacy is about war and politics. It's about the art of winning. Yet it revolves around a game, a place where people can practice diplomacy without suffering the consequences of getting hurt. That alone is worth 5 stars.
