Standard H4 bulb with standard wattage - 55W for the low beam, 60W for the high beam filament. This bulb has dual filament.

How are the bulbs retained in the socket, set screw or twist in?

Neither twist ins or set screws. All Hella bulbs are held in with a two wire clip that is built in to the actual head lamp assembly. Head lamp assembly is then retained by the head lamp ring on your car. Hope this helps
