About the Artist Roberts began his career with the seminal 90's Minneapolis Post Punk Folk group, Pimentos for Gus, who released three critically acclaimed and hard to find recordings on the now defunct World Control Records. Following the band breakup, Roberts moved to Chicago to persue a career in music and a Master's Degree at the University of Chicago's Divinity School. Strangely enough his first solo recording following his work with Pimentos was an album of original children's songs. The CD received rave reviews from such national sources as Billboard Magazine critic Moira McCormick who called Great Big Sun "a sheer delight" and Sesame Street Parent Magazine which garnered it with the honor of "Best Gift of '98" in their year end issue. And Jim Walsh from the Pioneer Press recently called the record "hands down the best made for children album of the past two years!" Becomes Blue marks both a return to the songwriting that Roberts developed in his earlier outfits (in fact Roberts re-records a few of his older P4G songs in a new setting (Still, Laissez Fair, Bethlehem)) and an increased depth where he expreses complex and entangled emotional states through the simple turn of a phrase or a single image (Tiny Thread, Old Cafe, Ruby Red Shoes). One of the songs, Tiny Thread, was recently featured in the showtime movie A Class of His Own and submitted by showtime to be considered for an Emmy for "Best Original Song." How can you go wrong if it keeps your 2 yr old busy?
Looking to break out of the 24 hour rotation of Dan Zanes CDs usually playing in out house and car (don't get me wrong we LOVE Dan Zanes, but 18 months of pretty much non-stop calls for mixing it up), we decided to give Justin Roberts a try. The songs are very catchy and my 2 year old was singing a few of them after only one or two listens. The quality and catchiness of the songs make it enjoyable for parents too. My only complaint is that a few of the songs go on a little too long. You are probably familiar with the attention span of toddlers - they want the next song a lot.If you're looking for other ways to avoid the Wiggles and make the car ride as enjoyable for you as it for them, look into Dan Zanes and the Mother Goose Rocks series.

Baby and Mom Both Enjoy it!
Since we've gotten this, we have listened to it over and over. My son (1.5) has a couple of favorites, and though my favorites are different, we both enjoy the whole CD. The music is catchy, and not too childish or insipid. It addresses a serious topic here or there, but it also playful, fun and silly. The whole family enjoys it, and we are certainly going to buy more by the artist!

Not all happiness and fun
Love the music, but wish I'd been warned about the song 'Mama is Sad' (?) about divorce. I put the CD in expecting all happiness and fun, and end up feeling awkward and uncomfortable after my children ask why the mommy is sad.

Good...but Pop Fly is better
I love Justin Roberts...as do my two kids. We listen to his music in our van all the time. I bought this shortly after we listened to his Pop Fly CD after seeing him in concert. We LOVE Pop Fly. This CD is good and we love the catchy tunes of Willy was a Whale and Yellow Bus. This is a good CD for all families to enjoy.

Mellow Tunes to Tame Your Toddler
We were fans of Justin Robert's "Meltdown" so we decided to try "Yellow Bus" and we weren't disappointed. While not as uniformly memorable as "Meltdown", "Yellow Bus" has its own charms and a few top-notch tunes, especially "In the Car" and the title song. A few of the songs are a little too improvisational in nature to keep our childrens'(3-year old and 5-year old) attentions. All in all, though, "Yellow Bus" is a fine addition to our musical library.

6 yr old bought with own money!
We already owned Justin Roberts "Jungle Gym." My 6 yr old used his birthday money to buy this and "Melt down" and then insisted we write Justin Roberts a thank you note because he enjoyed his music so much!

Wow!
I LOVE this cd! I see Justin Roberts as the Harry Potter of kids' music... that is, I could see his music being repackaged for adults and listened to as much by parents as by the kids they bought it for. I know I listen to it whether my son is around or not, and my husband loves it so much he's learning the chords so he can play along while we listen. It really is that good!
