The amount of oil you lose by using the seal mate is nominal. With a few passes around the fork seal only a few drops of fork oil will be lost. If your fork has been leaking for a while or badly enough you may then need to add oil to your fork. See your service manual on how to check your fork oil levels for your particular machine.
