🧼 Clean smarter, not harder!
With dramatically improved navigation, cleaning coverage, vacuum pickup, and particle filtration, the Roomba 530 vacuuming robot picks up amazing amounts of dirt and debris with the simple touch of a button. The powerful unit features innovative spinning side brushes that grab dirt and dust from corners and along wall edges, as well as two high-speed, counter-rotating brushes that pick up pet hair, cat litter, food crumbs, and other debris from floors. The vacuum sucks up the debris and deposits it into a large, easy-to-empty bagless dustbin, and its improved fine-filtration system traps dust, pollen, and other allergens inside the unit, reducing infiltration into the living environment. For added convenience, the vacuum's cleaning head automatically adjusts to transition from wood, tile, and linoleum to carpets and rugs, while improved anti-tangle technology ensures it won't get stuck on cords and rug fringe. If the unit begins to pick up a cord or carpet tassel, it will automatically reverse the direction of its brushes to extract the item. A gentle-touch bumper system senses obstacles so the vacuum automatically slows its approach, gently touches the obstacle, then redirects to continue cleaning under or around the object. Because it cleans under beds, couches, and other hard-to-reach areas, it actually vacuums more of the floor than a standard upright can. The vacuum also senses dirtier areas and spends more time cleaning them, and it uses built-in cliff sensors to avoid stairs and other drop-offs. In addition, invisible barriers can be set using the unit's Virtual Wall system. To mark off-limit areas, simply place a Virtual Wall at a doorway or other opening and adjust the infrared beam setting to the distance of the opening. The unit automatically detects the beam and will not cross it. The vacuuming robot returns to its self-charging Home Base to dock and recharge between cleaning cycles or when the battery starts to run low. Its advanced power system consists of a fast-charging battery, a three-hour charger, and a power source that supercharges the unit for up to 120 minutes of continuous cleaning, covering about three to four average-size rooms on a single charge. Other accessories include two Virtual Walls (that require two D batteries each), a brush cleaning tool, and an extra filter. The vacuuming robot measures 16-3/4 by 21 by 5 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty. Yes, It Really Works This smart, powerful, and autonomous vacuum features iRobot’s proven and patented three-stage cleaning system. First, innovative spinning side brushes grab dirt and debris from corners and along wall edges, then two high-speed, counter-rotating brushes pick up pet hair, food crumbs, and other debris. The powerful vacuum sucks up the debris and deposits it into a large, easy-to-empty bagless dustbin. The improved fine-filtration system traps dust, pollen, and other allergens inside the robot, reducing infiltration into your living environment. The cleaning head automatically adjusts to transition from wood, tile, and linoleum to carpets and rugs. Improved anti-tangle technology ensures it won’t get stuck on cords and rug fringe. If Roomba begins to pick up a cord or carpet tassel, it will automatically reverse the direction of its brushes to extract the item. Roomba senses dirtier areas and spends more time cleaning them, and it uses built-in cliff sensors to avoid stairs and other drop-offs. When the job is done, Roomba returns to its self-charging Home Base to dock and recharge between cleaning cycles or when the battery is running low.Easy to Use The Roomba 530 features a friendly and informative audio voice demonstration that walks you through initial setup and alerts you when Roomba requires maintenance or assistance. Starting a cleaning cycle is simple--just press the "Clean" button and Roomba does the rest. First it will calculate the size of the room, the obstacles in the room, and the cleanliness of the floors. Then it goes to work all by itself. At the end of each cleaning cycle, Roomba 530 returns to its Home Base to dock and recharge. Yes, it’s that simple. Routine maintenance is a snap. The large-capacity bagless bin is easy to slide out, empty, and click back into place. The brushes and filters can be easily removed by hand for routine cleaning and maintenance. Smart and Efficient Roomba calculates the appropriate cleaning time and pattern for each area and adjusts its behavior over 67 times per second to achieve the most thorough cleaning result. On average, Roomba covers every part of the floor four times. A gentle-touch bumper system senses obstacles, so Roomba automatically slows its approach, gently touches the obstacle, then redirects to continue cleaning under or around the object. Because it cleans under furniture, Roomba actually vacuums more of the floor than a standard upright can--and you don’t even have to push it around. Roomba’s Virtual Wall creates an invisible barrier that it will not cross (two Virtual Walls are included with the Roomba 530). To mark off-limit areas, simply place a Virtual Wall at a doorway or other opening and adjust the infrared beam setting to the distance of the opening. Roomba automatically detects the beam and will not cross it. The vacuum's advanced power system consists of a fast-charging battery, a three-hour charger, and a power source that supercharges the unit for up to 120 minutes of continuous cleaning, covering about three to four average-size rooms on a single charge. When the battery is low or when Roomba has completed a cleaning cycle, it automatically returns to the self-charging Home Base to dock and recharge. As a member of the newest generation of Roomba innovation, the Roomba 530 features a more powerful vacuum and redesigned high-speed, counter-rotating brushes that pick up more dirt, pet hair, dander, cat litter, crumbs, leaves, and other debris.Features A powerful vacuum: Two counter-rotating brushes and a powerful vacuum remove dirt, dust, pet hair, and other debris from your carpets and floors Robot intelligence: Navigates throughout your home, cleaning under and around furniture, covering each area an average of four times Avoids off-limit areas: 2 Virtual Walls tell Roomba where to clean by restricting off-limit areas Self-charging and docking: Automatically returns to its Home Base to dock and recharge between cleanings Detects dirt: Senses dirtier areas and spends more time cleaning them Cleans beneath furniture: Cleans under tables, beds, chairs, and other hard-to-reach places Edge-cleaning capability: Follows wall edges and reaches deep into corners to remove dust, dirt, and debris Self-adjusting cleaning head: Automatically adjusts from carpets to hard floors and back again Light-touch bumpers: Roomba slowly approaches obstacles, gently touches them, then redirects to clean around them Anti-tangle system: Roomba effectively extracts itself if it picks up cords, carpet fringe, or tassels Simple operation: Roomba keeps itself charged and ready to go--simply press the Clean button and Roomba does the rest What’s in the box: 1 iRobot Roomba 530, 2 Virtual Walls (require 2 D batteries each, not included), 1 self-charging Home Base, 1 power supply (3-hour charge time), 1 brush cleaning tool, 1 rechargeable battery, 1 extra filter

Does a great job; unbelievable customer service
UPDATE: I Have encountered probably the greatest positive customer support experience that I can recall in recent memory. The $50 new enhanced cleaning head arrived this afternoon and I installed it immediately. Then, I put Roomba back to work and it performed as well as it did when it was brand new...no more thumping and poor pickup. Roomba worked for a couple of hours, but it never stopped and asked for a brush cleaning. Even so, I was still smarting from the cost of the replacement head. Then, about 6:30 p.m. EDT today, I received a call from IRobot customer support. The representative, Jammy, advised that they had reviewed my case and agreed that I should not have had to spend so much money to maintain a machine just over two years old. He said they would like to send me a new cleaning head at no cost to me. He said, however, that in order to do this, I would have to return the new head that I had just received and installed. He seemed a bit surprised when I told him that I had already received, installed and used it.Nonetheless, he said, he was shipping me another new head and that I should remove and return for credit the one I had just received, even though I had already put it to use. When IRobot receives it, I will receive full credit for the return. He also advised that he would email a shipping label to cover the cost of the return. Jammy apologized again and again for the inconvenience that this would involve. And, it will be an inconvenience. I'll have to perform another surgery on Roomba to remove the newly installed part, repackage it then take it to a shipper. But that's OK. This company wants to do the right thing and principle says I need to help them.I spent 40+ years in corporate America with a Company that truly accepted the axiom that the customer is always right...even when you knew they weren't. That Company valued its reputation for the service it provided and was willing to go to extraordinary lengths to assure customer satisfaction. The reality is that customers are often wrong. They don't (or won't) follow simple instructions and when something goes wrong as a result, they expect the Company to take care of it. And through the 1990s, my company did. Then, through a succession or sales and mergers, I wound up with a Company that depicts the corporation of the 21st Century. Corporate greed set in. That Company absolutely hated customers. It professed from the top down that if it could eliminate customers, it would have a much stronger bottom line. That Company still operates today. It's not highly successful but it still functions. I often wonder why when I see their ads on TV. Part of the reason is that their competitors apply the same philosophy so the customer has no where else to turn.If IRobot continues to serve other customers as well as it has served me, then it will succeed. All most customers want is some minimal assurance that they will get reasonable value for the investment they have made in a product. That means that the product should have a reasonable life expectancy. I would expect a vacuum cleaner such as Roomba to last 5-7 years without a major maintenance expenditure. That's a lot less then the 40+ years we got from our Kirby vacuum cleaner, but then Roomba is a much more complex device that's not intended for the heavy duty deep cleaning service that Kirby provides. If my Roomba had been 5+ years old, I would not have been nearly as upset as I was about a major failure after 2+ years. As a result of IRobot's response to my problem and my incredible satisfaction with a machine that I originally thought might have been a gimmick or high-priced gadget, there will be another Roomba in my future. That would not have been the case given my earlier review below. Thanks, IRobot, for exceptional customer service.ORIGINAL two-star reviewA month ago, I would have given my Roomba a five-star review. I purchased it as a Christmas gift for my wife in 2011, wondering if it was a trendy gadget that it had more hype than actual productive use. It's been run once a week for a little over two years...not really a very long time for a vacuum cleaner and it has done a surprisingly good job. And, until a month ago, it's worked without a hitch, eliminating the need to use our heavy duty deep cleaning vacuum cleaner more than a couple of times a month. And the best part about the Roomba is that it does its work while you're doing something else. The only problem we've encountered is that it has an extremely small capacity dust bin which must be cleaned frequently. And, because we have cats, fur gets caught in the brushes causing the machine to stop with a voice command telling you to clean the brushes. But that's OK. Even with the frequent cleaning it's still a huge time saver and it does a respectable job of keeping our carpets looking freshly cleaned without a lot of effort...significantly less than using our heavy duty deep-cleaning machine a couple of times a week..Then, about a month ago, it started "thumping" as it cleaned. I went to the website and the instructions said to remove the brushes and see if the "thumping" continued when the machine was run without the brushes and, if so, to contact customer support. It did and I did. Customer support was extremely quick to respond, advising that I needed to replace the cleaning head with a link to the part. I was stunned when I found the cost of replacing the head was $50...1/6 of the original cost of the machine which was slightly over two years old.I reluctantly ordered the part but also took the time to let IRobot know of my unhappiness with the cost of the repair, especially considering the age of the Roomba. Very quickly, I received a telephone call from customer support advising they would give me a 15% discount($7.50) on the cost of the part and apologizing for the inconvenience. They also advised that the new cleaning head was an upgrade which actually make the Roomba function more reliably and effectively. We shall see.Actually, I had no choice in purchasing the repair part because it was the only option available if I wanted to continue using the machine but this moved it from a surprisingly effective device back to the expensive "gadget" I had originally anticipated. And, since I had anticipated this possibility at the time I bought it, it reminds me that I should pay more attention to my better judgment which waved red flags at me before I bought it. It will be the last repair of this magnitude. If I have another failure, I will simply junk the machine and move on. Prior to this, I had spent less than $10.00 to replace bushings which were lost during cleaning of the brushes...not an unreasonable maintenance expense. As a result of this experience, I can't recommend a Roomba unless you want and can afford an expensive conversation piece that actually does a pretty good job when it's running right. I find this experience quite sad and disappointing. The Roomba is so neat and effective that you become attached to it like a pet, but it's also like the pet that bites the hand that feeds it. I won't put up with that.

Returned it
After the rave reviews, I really wanted to love ROOMBA, but alas, it wasn't for us.No real complaints about the cleaning it does. To its credit, the machine calls for 1 button operation, has a simple, elegant design, cleans nooks and cranies with its side sweeeping brush. Yes, the maintenance was a bit of a bother, cleaning out the brushes, but not too bad.Our trouble is, as apartment dwellers, the operating time on this was just way too long. 1.5 hours after starting it, it was still bouncing off our walls and furniture in our 900 square foot apartment. Its just not fair to our downstairs neighbors for them to have to put up with that. We've ordered the NEATO, hopefully its more methodical cleaning pattern will diminish the overall operating time, and the bumps and bangs associated with ROOMBAs ping pong cleaning strategy.Thank you AMAZON for making the return straightforward and easy.

Finally! A Fun Way to Vacuum!
The Short Take:-IT WORKS!-Efficient-Easy to use-Cleaning it isn't as bad as most people make it sound-It's quieter than a full-size vacuum-Grooms carpets very nicely-Overall winner! The Long Take:I've been interested in Roombas since they first came out, but I've always been a little bit skeptical of how well they actually work. Once a friend of mine showed me her Roomba Discovery Series, I knew I had to have one.Let's first cut to the chase; this thing is like a member of the family. There is just something about having one of these roaming your home that makes you liken it to a pet.More importantly, however, it actually WORKS! In my experience, my Roomba finds more dust and dirt than my regular upright, which is a respectable, newer, cyclonic type vacuum in great condition. I can run the upright and then let the Roomba free and it always comes back to its base with a bin full of dust, hair, and other litter. Shocking, right? How can something so small find so much? I think a lot of it is that this guy can go where the upright can't, and he is much more meticulous--scouring walls edge, zig-zagging back and forth across the room multiple times, and darting under bed skirts. It is just better. In practical terms, using it requires no more effort than a normal vacuum despite what others say. Of course you have to pick up the loose socks and be mindful of cords! You do the same with an upright! Also, many people harp on the regular maintenance, but lets be honest, aren't we supposed to clean out our full-sized vacuums from time to time, too?I empty the bin after every run and wash the filter every other run. I keep a spare filter on hand so one can be in the unit if the other is drying. Works perfect. I use the included tool to clean the hair off of the brushes once a week. So far, this regimen is proving successful, and it isn't that hard to do! Total time is less than 5 minutes to do the whole works. I joke with my friends that I'm taking my Roomba to the "Spa". Why not! Ham it up!The virtual walls are nice. Only downside is having to manually operate the ones that come with the 530 as opposed to the "lighthouse" style ones that come with the more expensive models. That being said, however, you can pick up a pair of Auto Virtual Walls (like the slim ones that come with the 530, only they manage their power automatically, which makes running the Roomba while you are gone much more feasible since you don't have to worry about draining the batteries in the standard virtual walls.)Moving from carpet to hard surfaces isn't a problem, even for some pretty steep thresholds. Mine has yet to be dumbfounded by my dark area rugs, but he does like to push around lightweight throw rugs if they are on a slick surface (I toss them aside while the Roomba does his thing anyway)The Aerovac Bin is also something to check out. Register your robot with iRobot and get a coupon for a discounted accessory and use that to buy an Aerovac bin. Pulls WAY more dust out of the carpets and the brushes seem to stay cleaner as well. (Discount reference true as of 10-2011)I have a 1000 sq ft apartment, and the Roomba has no problem doing this on a single charge, finding his way back to his home base without issue when he finishes. I just leave both bedroom doors open and the bathroom door open and let him bounce around as he pleases. If you shut him in a room, he does a more thorough job, but letting him have free range seems to yield a more than satisfactory job. I should note that this takes him about an hour and a half to do before he decides it's time to dock (and not because he is low on battery, but because he is actually finished).Overall, I am VERY satisfied with my Roomba (thankfully--I very much wanted to be for the price! I recommend it to everyone that asks me about him. I've even convinced two more friends to get one! To some, these little robots may seem ridiculous and promote laziness, but my apartment is cleaner than it has ever been. It's fun to watch and therefore fun to use. It's quiet enough to run while watching TV (for me anyway), and provides entertainment of its own when there is nothing on TV.Do yourself a favor and pick one up!
