How is this product different from Prime? Prime is used to remove high levels of ammonia, will not alter PH, and will also remove cholrine.

Prime binds ammonia for 24 hours. AmGuard can bind ammonia for 48 hours.

If your amonia levels are that high, shouldn’t you be a 50% water change?

yes - usually this is reserved for emergencies due to power outages, unexpected deaths, gas pockets etc

How long is the shelf life?

Not sure the shelf life but I have had bottles for months and it seems to have same affect regardless. Every time I add water or clean the tank(taking out up to a about a quarter of the tank water) and fill back up I use the am-guard. I have a healthy tank and have hatched and raised several angel fish so the environment is very stable.

How does this not affect tank cycling? Are bacteria still able to process the ionized ammonia?

yes, this product makes it non toxic until its removal via water changes
