I'm sorry for being a bit computer illiterate, but will this work in my 27inch 2009 imac?

The previous answers to this question, while well-intended, are ambiguous or inaccurate. This drive (and ANY 3.5" SATA hard drive) will function in every iMac made after about 2003. (The SATA specification was announced in 2000; SATA drives began appearing in the following years. Apple has always been an early adopter of new technologies and adopted them almost immediately.) No adapter is necessary; Mac desktop systems use standard 3.5" drives (laptops use 2.5" drives). Having said that, though, there is a bit more work in upgrading the hard drive in any "all-in-one" computer. It depends on the drive interface on the mother board. If it has a wide cable with pin holes in two rows then you have an IDE interface. If you look on your motherboard and it has L shaped interface then you have a SATA interface and this drive will work .
