Red Mist

I'm not really into gore/horror films as I don't often find them all that interesting. I originally watched this because I'm a huge Katie McGrath fan and have been watching different titles she's appeared in. From the scores for it I've seen online compared to what I watched, I found this film to be severely underrated.SPOILERS GOING FORWARD.While I personally find most (not all) gorefest/slasher films kind of campy and the characters stereotypically one dimensional, I found I didn't want to stop watching this. Yeah, there isn't much character development for everyone (it IS a pretty short film afterall), but wondering what each one's unique fate would be oddly interested me.In fairness to the character of Kenneth, upon watching, you realize that the group of interns are actually pretty awful people. The way they treated him was horrible. However, the peek into the few things Kenneth saw as a youth and the odd scene of him video recording a dead body at the beginning of the film leading up to his interaction with the interns was rather disturbing and he did come across as pretty creepy.Cat was portrayed well and I actually found myself sympathizing with her predicaments. Whether driven by guilt or empathy to correct her misdeeds, I was interested in the outcome of her character.As I mentioned, I'm not a big fan of gore, however, I am intrigued by psychological horror. The out of body experiences were an interesting way for Kenneth to exact his revenges (albeit not very believable but this is a horror movie so I take it with a grain of salt) and to make matters worse for Cat, finding out no one believed her when she figured it out was what made it maddening. Maybe it's just me, but when a character figures the mystery or situation out only to be not believed by her peers or other people is what just makes me that much more invested because you want that character to succeed when all seems impossible.I didn't dislike this film by any means. Sure it had it's cheesy bits and there wasn't a lot of character development outside of Cat and Kenneth and even Jake to a degree, but overall it was a pretty solid horror flick. I'd recommend giving it a watch. Especially if you're looking for a horror flick that isn't just limbs being hacked off left and right, unrealistic amounts of blood being sprayed all ocer and people running away and tripping every 10 seconds.TL;DR - Underrated film. Give it a chance. Rotten Tomatoes got this one wrong.

NOTE: This review is based upon the Blu-ray edition and unfortunately not the DVD versionLooking to watch some other work by Sarah Carter ( Shark - Season One  and  Falling Skies: Season 1 [Blu-ray ]), I purchased "Red Mist" under the pretense that Sarah Carter was one of the stars. I came to this false conclusion based upon the fact that both the cover of the Blu-ray edition (but not the DVD version as I learned tonight) and the Wikipedia entries for Sarah Carter and "Freakdog," aka "Red Mist," indicated such. Needless to say, I was very disappointed when Sarah's character was as much a star of the film as John Wayne was a star of The Longest Day, How the West Was Won and The Greatest Story Ever Told: Name recognition!That said, I was pleasantly surprised when I saw Andrew Lee Potts ( Primeval: Volume 1 (Series 1 and 2) , the Canadian spinoff B00ECXJC28, and  Alice (TV Miniseries) ) as the real costar portraying Kenneth, the janitor, cruelly nicknamed "Freakdog," that lead to the alternate release title. While his lines were few, his actions were on the spot creepy. As far as I am concerned Andrew makes this film a darn good drama; i.e., it is no slasher or horror film in my opinion. In fact, as noted in another review (that I unfortunately waited until tonight to read) most of the "good" stuff appears off screen or very quickly, and lessened the impact of the film.As the lead actor/star of the film, Arielle Kebbel gives a sound performance in the role of Katherine, the only intern doctor who remotely cares about or tolerates the attention given her from the lascivious janitor, Kenneth. Stephen Dillane ( Game of Thrones: Season 1 [Blu-ray ] and  John Adams [Blu-ray ]) was another surprise as Doctor Harris, a man of dubious morality when it comes to patients. Alex Wyndham (Rome) must have played his character very well because I could not wait for him to get killed--I mean it had to happen, the film is that kind of movie after all!Now as to why I am even more upset about purchasing the Ble-ray edition: THERE ARE NO FEATURES AT ALL!!! NO MENU, NO SOUND OR LANGUAGE OPTIONS, AND NO SPECIAL FEATURES!!! Oh, and it both starts out play right away and starts replaying as soon as the credits finish. I don't know about the sound/language options, but the DVD most assuredly has a menu since, according to the web page description anyways, has three bonus features: The Making of "Red Mist," Extended Interview with Arielle Kebbel, and The "Red Mist" Cast in Northern Ireland. Guess I will be buying a DVD to replace a Blu-ray instead of the other way around--a first for me! I'll try to update this review after seeing the DVD version.

Better than your basic teen thriller. It was pretty good, the ending was awesome. Well done.

I'm going to be quite frankly honest. I only ordered this movie because of two factors: 1) the cast and 2) it's a horror movie. It started off okay, but quickly went downhill from there. It becomes extremely confusing and messy the farther you get into the movie. On top of that, the killer.. really?? It was a unique idea and I'll be the first to admit that, but seriously. It's not worth watching. If you're bored and you truly have nothing else to watch and this is free to view somewhere, then sure. Waste your time on it. Also, the DVD cover shown here technically spoils a death in the movie. Just thought I'd forewarn you all.

Weird, good movie in it's own right, those doctors in training aren't that nice.

Poor boy gets injured, falls into a coma, due to medical interns.Intern tries to help medicate boy to health.Boy has powers to rule (mind-alter) others.Do they all end up like him or escape the boys wraith?

Not bad but not great schlock horror with some nice gory bits. I bought it because Alex Wyndham is in it. And here he more closely resembles the way he did in The Line of Beauty plus he has the accent and hair style unlike that other horror (hills run red) film he did that I reviewed recently and his character here is much more likeable. Aside from him there's that girl from the grudge 2 who is quite good here. And Sarah Carter from the beginning of Final Destination 2 is here also. Another Brit (or rather more accurately Scot) Martin Compston plays an unsavoury character. And yet another Brit from house on haunted hill 2 Andrew Lee Potts is the main antagonist. Once again the three stars is for Alex who is as gorgeous here as he was when breaking Dan Stevens' heart. There's much to enjoy for the genre fans. Running time on back reads 86 minutes it's actually 82 minutes but that's hardly a problem. There are, however, no subtitles. Originally the film was called Freakdog which is a more apt title. Red mist? There isn't any mist, red or otherwise. But there are some nice red moments. It earns it's 18 certificate in spades. Enjoyable just not highly enjoyable. Good cast. Great deaths.

A group of ambitious medical students get together to party the night away, with a mix of drink and drugs nicked from the hospital pharmacy. Along comes Kenneth(Andrew Lee Potts, of Primeval and Ideal fame), not exactly the life and soul of the party,a shuffling, stammering mortuary worker with a penchant for self harm. He has a crush on one of the students Catherine(Arielle Kebbel), and asks to walk her home. He is told to get lost by obnoxious Sean(Martin Compston) and Kenneth retaliates by telling them he has filmed the stealing of the drugs from the pharmacy, on his mobile. Worried, they invite him to sit with them, in order to placate him, and steal the evidence.The it all goes pear shaped. After pouring copious amounts of liquer down Kenneth's throat, he suffers an epileptic seizure, and then goes into shock. Catherine wants to ring for the ambulance, but the others all side with Sean, who says that if they are caught with illegal drugs, their careers will be over. So instead, they dump Kenneth by the hospital. Catherine rings the hospital ward later to discover that Kenneth has slipped into a coma. Sean is pleased, as this guarantees Kenneth's silence. Catherine is not so pleased, and wracked with guilt, she uses her brilliant medical mind to research drugs that may help Kenneth's recovery. The following night she enters the ward under false pretences, and injects Kenneth with the drug. She should have researched the side effects more carefully, as soon Kenneth is able, through out of body experiences, to possess other peoples bodies, in order to carry out a bloody revenge on his tormentors.This film is directed by Paddy Breathnach, who also has Shrooms in his directing credits. This might put a few people off, as Shrooms is widely derided as a bad film(I thought it had some good points). Well, this is a far better film, and I really can't understand the criticism that it was wrong for Breathnach to have used British locales and cast and made an American based horror. I think if the script worked in an American setting, so be it. It is difficult to side with any of the students in peril, as on the whole, they are a very selfish, unlikeable bunch. However, the mainly British cast all deliver good performances.The film really comes into its own once Kenneth is in the coma, and is carrying out his revenge through other human vessels. There are some inventive , bloody set pieces and the whole thing comes across as a nifty variation on the Australian horror film 'Patrick'.Altogether, a very enjoyable horror film, and a rather unfairly derided one too. Nice array of extras on the disc too. I'm giving the whole package 4 out of 5

I buy cheap movies now and again I don’t expect much from them , but this film was surprisingly good kept me entertained til the end and was nice to see Katie Garth outiside of her supergirl role a early role for her , Sarah Carter was great as well as was kebbel , I would recommend and worth the under 3 quid I paid

excellent movie!

It's a pity this British horror has to pretend to be American but it's well made and enjoyable.
