This lotion really does smell exactly like a cut-open fig--skin, seeds and all. I'd describe the smell as strongly vegetal--like a green tree branch stripped of its bark or like the dripping undergrowth of a tropical jungle. Despite Diptyque's clear description of the fig smell, I had still imagined a more floral aroma, but the lotion really does have a densely "green" scent. It's not "woodsy," in the sense of pine and cypress. It's "woodsy" in the sense of tree branches and green leaves. Because it's not at all "perfume-y," Diptyque Philosykos really does seem a unisex scent, but it probably isn't for everyone. It's more like vegetation than fragrance, but I think you can grow to love it. Smell a fig before you buy it, though.
