Good to learn also for just in case
Bought for cave survey projects. Its not the measuring compass used. its the orientation compass used for the maping. The scales on the sides are the common ones used for above ground maps as well. Before taking off with this compass and a map learn what your doing. You will get yourself lost.Learn about declination. The bezil on this compass adjusts to count for declination. small magnifying glass built in for reading small print on a map. May or may not be strong enough to start a fire under emergency conditions. Havn't tried it yet. Good to learn also for just in case.

Very Functional basic compass!
I bought this compass as a backup to my main compass and when not in my pack as a compass to put in my truck for the "just in case" times I see something interesting, stop, and go to explore. This is a great basic compass and performs perfectly!

Always trust a brand name
I've purchased dozens of compasses (probably) over the years, and had mixed results: some awesome, some not so much. This one falls in the awesome category for its features, but mostly for its speed and accuracy! I was most impressed by how well and swiftly this compass found mag north! But, ya get what you pay for: cheap no-name junk OR a (slightly) higher price name brand tool! I'll stick with Silva brand!

I took this out of my vest pocket like this. I don't understand how this could of happened. I really liked this compass and it is less than a month old. Maybe just a factory defect?
