Packed with useful information. Highly recommended.
Oracle Data Modeler has been gaining more and more popularity since Oracle decided to give it for free. It has appeared to be quite rich in features and supports other databases too like SQL Server and DB2.Already the beginning of the book is stunning: forewords by Chris Date himself and the legendary asktom - Tom Kyte! This book has a very clear structure and Helskyaho remembers to stress the importance of data modeling and relational principles, not just the tool. The tips are well thought, the first tip answers right away the question in many minds: how to share your design with others.Helskyaho explains all steps needed to design and create a database using the Data Modeler. She covers also the Data Warehousing area very well. Both dimensional modeling (star and snowflake schema) and Data Vault modeling are included. This is great since most books concentrate only on one method. This book is a joy to read and it can save you a lot of time. If you think that it is expensive, remember that the Data Modeler is free. This book really is a good investment. The writer is very experienced and shares a lot of useful information about data modeling, agile database projects and data warehousing. I would recommend it even to somebody interested in those subjects even if he or she is not going to use Data Modeler.

Not sure how these books gain 5 stars
Clearly the author is not a native English speaker and the impact on writing is tremendous. The writing is so very confusing, tortuous in even explaining basic ideas of database design. Better to look for agnostic alternatives such as apress beginning database design and then use this as reference and bear the torture of going through. Can never recommend this book

Dense to read
This book is somewhat dense to read, and is rapidly going out of date as Oracle Data Modeler continues to evolve.. I had to install Oracle Data Modeler in order to follow the book. This is normal for a technical book. One major concern is the confusing terminology used:Book Data ModelerConceptual Design Logical DesignLogical Design Relational DesignOverall, I learnt some key database design concepts, but this book is for experienced database designers to learn how to use the product in their work. I would need to work through several trivial designs in order to get good with using this product.
