Helpful book by a credible doctor
I discovered Dr. Vad's "Back Rx" book and DVD last fall when I fell and fractured two vertebrae in my back. It was the best and most useful info that I found (and I tried a lot), so I was glad to find this book. He doesn't tout everything, as some books and physician authors do. If there's little scientific evidence that something works or it's not advisable, he'll say so. I appreciate that. And he focuses on non-narcotic, non-surgical alternatives, which I really appreciate. He and Dr. Andrew Weil (in Spontaneous Healing) both recommended an enzyme derived from the stem on pineapples that I'd never heard of, and I just ordered some (elsewhere). I've always trusted Dr. Weil, and I've come to trust Dr. Vad, too. All in all, I'm glad I got this book, and I recommend it.

A good and short review of the field of Arthritis Pain
There are many books on Arthritis Pain. Each presents a case. Those that are truthful do not mention the word cure. The disease is progressive. The answer is to stop the damage. There are three parts; the pain, the depression, and the physical damage. Vad does handle the first two parts well. He does give the good recomendations. Additionaly, he does warn about the abuse of NSAIDs.Vad does cover the pharmacology of the drugs involved and some natural solutions for treatment. He is concerned with areas such as the back. Compared to the Mayo Clinic text on Arthritis, it shorter and less comprehensive. The one area which the book is light on is exercise. I feel that this part of the book requires expansion. Otherwise, the presentation and recommendations are excellent. I found the book useful because it recommended a treating doctor's feelings.

Chronic Pain Handbook
Wish I'd known about this book sooner! I've read numerous books on pain disorders and chronic neck/back pain, and this was the first one that seemed to cover all areas (medical, physiological, psychological, prevention, diagnostic, treatment, CAM, diet, exercise, etc.). Love the research background and the understanding of pain based on underlying inflammation. Gave me a whole new perspective on my chronic neck & back pain and treatment, after trying everything else for 6+ years!

Finally!
Saw Dr Vad on PBS and bought the book & video. I bought it because my brother is a Sports Medicine Dr.(out of my state of course), and Dr. Vaj's recommendations mimicked what my brother already reinforced that surgery doesn't have to be the answer and to try other methods before heading that route. When you experience chronic pain you look for ways to help yourself. This book has great advice, highly recommended.

Excellent book for those coming back from herniated disk
I began the exercises described in this book starting with the very first simplest. The progression of the exercises were helpful in recovering from an L4-L5 herniated disk and subsequent debilitating sciatica. When it seemed I was headed for surgery, this book helped me try an alternative treatment. While I am not (and never will be) 100%, my physician and I decided against surgery because I am recovering so well with this book's suggested course of action and modified activity.

stop pain
this book serves as a reminder of the link between what we eat and how it can effect our bodies. it also talks of the importance of supplements and what ones are the best to fight inflammation and relieve pain. After months of taking doctor prescribed medicines and been told my condition would only get worse with age this book offered me a positive alternative and hope for a better future.

Insightful.
The road to recovery from inflammation is there. We need to educate ourselves. This book has insights that you may find helpful. I think it's worth a try. I use it as a reference book.
