240) which is really bad! I then unplugged the "dog bone" and did ...
This "dog bone" did what it is supposed to do for 3-4 uses. I hooked up to my 30 amp outlet and I had no power in my 5th wheel. The first place i put my volt meter was on the shore power side of my transfer switch. I was getting 240 volts on both "hot" lugs and the "common" lug instead of 120 respectively. I then testes my outlet, which passed (120, 120 and 0). I then tested the "dog bone" while plugged in (240, 240, 240) which is really bad! I then unplugged the "dog bone" and did continuity testing. One of the 30 amp prongs is somehow connected to the 50 amp common and a hot socket and the other 30 amp prong is as it should be to just one 50 amp socket. The common, regardless of being 30 or 50 amp should never be "hot"! I can at this point, since this "dog bone" once worked, that the wires inside shorted out causing this failure. As a result the shore power relay on my transfer switch is now welded in the "closed" position rendering it useless. So I just $174 plus my time replacing that. At this point I am not cutting into the "dog bone" to investigate in hopes of a warranty claim. If my claim is denied, I will post a video of the failure as well as what I find inside. What did I learn? ALWAYS perform a continuity test on products like this and/or similar prior to each use to prevent damage, or WORSE, an electrical fire!!!

Why Don't The RV Manufacturors Make these Connections 90-Degrees?
I didn't even know about something like this until watching the YouTube channel I like called "I Love RV Life" which has several great videos regarding many useful RV accessories, such as this one from Camco. From his videos and website I located and ordered this 90-degree 50-amp short extension dog bone for connecting our 5th wheel. Now, anybody who owns one knows those 50-amp cables are on the heavy side, so I do think having a 90-degree connection would be less stress on the RV's electrical connection point than the cable going straight out and pulling down. This extension connection is very well-made. My only issue was the plastic insulation part that connects to the RV itself didn't line up 100% on the prong with the angle attached from the RV and it had to be forced just a bit to fit on correctly. After a few connections later and it is now working much better and this model does have a ring to tighten and lock on the adapter. As shown in my photo I wasn't to sure on the water shedding abilities of the connection from the 90 degree extension to the stock cable, so I improvised a rain guard with a plastic bag. The connection might be fine but since there was no overlap I wasn't going to trust it that some water couldn't seep into the connection with rain at our site. Other than mentioned, I am very happy with the purchase and this adapter. I have since seen a couple of other adapters available, one longer than this one but I do like that this model is straight down where others I've seen are more at an angle away from the straight down to a curve down along the side of the RV.

REALLY, you can’t use it in the rain? It’s for camping!
OK, so I buy this to use on my camper, while camping - you know, like OUTDOORS! The description on the website states “heat resistant PVC sleeve that serves as protection from outdoor elements” in two different places. Then I get the product and the label on the product shows a red circle with a slash through it with the plug and raindrops inside the circle and it says “DO NOT USE WHEN WET.” So, I’m supposed to run outside everytime it rains and unplug my electric so I can bring the adapter inside!!! Why is this important tidbit not mentioned anywhere in the description online?? I know I can probably find some kind of cover but this should be mentioned in the description so you know what you’re getting because there are others out there that are waterproof and I would have chosen one of those.

Great purchase for the cross country traveler
Great purchase for the cross country traveler. I recently pulled my 41' fifth wheel from NC to CA. Long, long drive. But enough about me.I bought this because I had dead batteries to start out my journey and my truck just wouldn't keep up with charging the fully dead batteries and running the refrigerator. I didn't have the luxury of hooking up my trailer for a day before I took off, otherwise dead batteries wouldn't have been an issue.I actually used this when I stayed overnight at a hotel and Flying J truckstop. The hotel was nice enough to point me to an exterior outlet close enough to park my fifth wheel. The truckstop actually had shore power (first time I had experienced this) and simply plugged in. I also bought a 100' extension cord for those hard to reach places (like at the hotel). Be careful when purchasing the extension cord, the cord must be rated for at least 15 amps (same as the plug) to avoid any issues.I believe this is a must-have for cross country travel and for storage. My fully charged batteries were able to run my fridge overnight and during the 12+ hours of driving if I did not plug in, but this allows for a backup plan if you can find an outlet. This dogbone also serves as a maintenance charger when the trailer is not in use for any period of time.

Very happy so far, removes tension from connection.
Four stars only because I have just connected it up. It took all of the tension from the straight power connection. I did have to rotate my trailer male connection but that is an issue that took all of 10 minutes so those that deduct stars for that are living in a world of their own. We had been having issues with our RV loosing AC power to one leg of the power panel. The constant tension on the power cable combined with the torque of the cable from being coiled would rotate cord after a few days. I was ready to call for a repairman to look at my power system when I discovered this.

WOW! Impressive quality! As good as it gets.
HOLY COW! This is extremely well made! THICK THICK construction, pliable, great handle on both ends. I hope the weight of the dogbone isn't too much and leads to wear on the prongs. Other than that, the only thing they could have done to make this better is include a 'James' to crawl out of the compartment and go plug it in for me! If you have a 30 rig, you should absolutely have this in your comparment in case there are no 30's left. A VERY small insurance price.

Well Built...Durable...
Quick Review:This is perfect for adapting from a 50 amp RV plug to a regular household 15 amp plug. Most of the time people go from a 50 to a 30 and then to a 15...this is much simpler, safer, and cuts a whole plug out of the equation! It's durable, well made, and the lenis perfect when using with most generators as the 12 inch length allows it to lie on the ground. (50 amp plugs are heavy)Overall I'm quite pleased and have nothing bad to say whatsoever.

Make sure they are pushed together securely the adaptor in the wire
This worked perfectly to get me to the plug that I was connecting to where the bigger adaptor didn’t fit into the cavity of the outside plug with the outside plug cover door in place. This took the weight of the cord when plugging in the 120 Regular house plug I find every box you plug into has a little quirk to it. Good to Cary a collection I find. If you look at the plug as two eyes and nose. Sometimes the nose is on top of the eyes in different boxes that you plug into in different locations this is very handy for all of these reasons

Excellent Product!
Excellent item! Very handy and better than using a separate adapter and extension. Product meets up with all information as stated and the price point was outstanding. Came on time as estimated and packaged well. I am always pleased with "Camco" Products. Thank You for another fine product. ☺

it works, but has a big head
works great, but some places we camp, the plugs are installed upside down, so it takes some manipulating to get the thing to plug in and the cord turn around and not pull too much on the plug. Also, the head is quite big, so depending on the plug cover it may not fit (happened only once so far for us this year)

A must addition for the new 50amp connection.
I have only used it once however it seems durable and easy to use. Sure makes a difference on the stress to the trailer connection which makes me wonder why trailer manufacturers include these with the sale considering it only makes sense to 45 it from the main connection? Expensive but considering the cost of replacing the outlet on the trailer due to stress break it is worth the investment.
