We're Going to the Doctor: Preparing For A Check-Up (Big Steps) Review: Interactive and well drawn book - This was a nice short book about taking young children to the doctor and expectations for being in the waiting room, undressing for the visit, and getting medications. At the bottom of each page are little tips for the parents about how to handle your child’s reactions to going to the doctor. My child is only 18 months old but she enjoyed the interactive features of the book such as spinning the dials and flipping the pop ups. Overall I highly recommend! Review: Good intro to routine doctor visits - Started looking at this book with my son after he freaked out at the 15-month check-up appointment. He still freaked during the 18-month appointment, but differently. He also seemed to use the book to process what happened during the last appointment because he wanted to read it more than once a day for a handful of days after. I would recommend it, along with a toy doctor kit so your little one can actually touch some of the objects depicted (stethoscope, etc.). Also, I never actually read the “story” printed in the book. Instead, I use the pictures to talk about what is happening on each page.

1 year old loves it
My 1 year old hates doctor visits and cries and screams the whole time, so I got her this book. She loves it! She wants me to read it 10 times a day to her.

Love it
High quality book. Lots of fun flaps. 2.5 year old granddaughter loves it. And it’s helping her with her doctor anxiety.

Simple book that covers some aspects others don't
This is probably the only doctor visit book I found that called out needing to get undressed, including socks. I wish I had this book before the 24month visit. Because this is the one thing that freaked her out during her visit - that she had to take off her socks. She was fine with everything else during her visit (even her flu shot)! So I’m glad this book calls out getting undressed. The book doesn’t have a lot of information about why certain things are happening or info about the tools or why you need a shot, etc. But I still appreciated the various scenes - especially the pharmacy one.

The Happy Doc Is In
The flaps are thin so you must monitor your toddler while reading through the book or the flaps get torn. The suggestions on each page for doctor visits is a great touch.

Perfect book to help our babies understand what happens at the doctor, we used this so much to talk about doctors and appointments with our little babies. They even wanted to take it to the doctors to show them

My daughter loved this book. It’s engaging and encouraged her to ask questions about going to the doctor.

Bought this to prepare my 3yo for the upcoming check-up and am utterly disappointed. The story takes two kids to the doctor's, one for a check-up along with an injection, one for a cold. The storyline is very simplified and scattered, it confused more than it helped. The check-up is not explained at all, the chile is measured and gets his injection - why, how etc. is not explored at all. The other child is simply prescribed medicine. It just doesn't make any sense and definitely doesn't help prepare a child for a doctor's visit. Two stars still because the illustrations are nice and I like the depicted diversity, e.g. the doctor is a black woman. Other than that, would not recommend the book.
