Under the Dome in The Outer Limits
Mix The Outer Limits, The Mist, and Under the Dome and you have Refuge."13 levels of hell"......An impossible-to-put-down full-tilt horror series. A great story that unfolds at an even, fast pace. A lot of bad stuff happens in this. A minor amount of unnecessary "filler", but it's not bad.Well written, for the most part. But I wish the authors had asked some people to read what they had written before publication so they could have caught the glaring inconsistencies and fallacies in the books.SEMI-SPOILERS (but not really direct give-aways):There are some things that bothered me.At the end of Book 2 I think it was, they discover what might be the cause of what is going on...... but then it's like that never happened!! Any normal person, let alone intelligent people, would have immmediately focused on the bizarre thing they discovered (and it is prety much obvious that it's related to the events taking place since it makes a path to the bell tower) and would try to figure it out!! But it's like they never saw anything, until much later. It's totally ignored by them for an unusual amount of time..... until Book Four. Also, in Book 3 when sound triggers attacks (I won't say by what) and the military guys warn certain people of that fact, it goes TOTALLY against what any normal person would act like a short time later when they torture one of them for information!! Obviously, anyone being tortured is going to make A LOT of noise!! These military guys would NOT have done that in the face of what the danger is. ESPECIALLY in the face of what the danger is.But all-in-all it's a good story. Just plan on overlooking some stupidity and inconsistencies.Would love for this group of authors to write another series! Just a little more thought put into what transpires.

Season 1 Was a Hit!!
This book was great, in so many ways. 1st, I liked the concept of a new "episode" of the series coming out about every 2 weeks. I waited to buy the Omnibus, but it was nice to know if I couldn't wait I could get the episodes that were already out. I also liked that this was just the the 1st, of who knows how many, "seasons" or parts to the book. That's pretty cool.About the books themselves. I never would've realized that there were 5 different coauthors writing these 1st 5 books, it flowed as though it was just separated into parts. I loved the concept of the book.....a town suddenly spiraling from 1 world to the next, not knowing what the new world would bring with it. It was a fun read & I'm looking forward to Season 2!The only thing that was tricky for me were all the characters. Each book flowed well, but with each book, if I remember correctly, there was at least 1 new character introduced. The main characters stayed the same always, but with the ever expanding cast of characters, I felt that there wasn't enough life blown into each character. This had an impact because, even in the last of the 5 books I had to pause to think about who, exactly, certain central key players were. After 5 books I just feel like I shouldn't have to question who someone is. Add in different nicknames & at times I had to stop & remember who was who. I think that's pretty much the only flaw, albeit kind of a big 1, that I had with these books. That's the reason for 4 stars instead of 5.Regardless, if you like mystery, sci-fi, thrilling action packed adventures-BUY THIS SERIES!! I know I'll certainly be buying the books that come out for this series myself in the future!!

Creative story
What better thing can you say about a book than it was entertaining and I wished for more information on what was an already long book. The character development was the highlight of the story. By the end you really cared for all of them and what would happen to them.

A fun ride through other's imaginations
I highly recommend this edge of your seat thriller for anyone who enjoys escaping the reality of our world for an adventurous romp through the imaginative minds of these writers. Thank you for coming together and creating characters worth pulling for and a look at some new worlds only found in the imaginations of the boundless minds

Great read!
This book kept me hooked. I was some what skeptical with the knowledge that there would be other writers and styles, but it flowed great and I really enjoyed it! Looking forward to more books by Jeremy Robinson!

A Rare Find
Once in a while you get very lucky enough. That's because once in a while you find a book that you keep thinking about after you've finished it. Refuge was one such book. Actually it's a series of five short books all about strange things that happen in a very small town, Refuge, New Hampshire when the church bells ring. Jeremy Bishop wrote the first book but had a different co-author for each of the other ones. Whenever the church bells ring, Refuge shifts to a different dimension in which the surrounding lands are different. In one shift, for instance, there are ashes raining down. In another, there's a beautiful sea surrounding the town. In each dimension though, there is some strange monstrous evil that the town and it's inhabitants must survive. The same characters continue in the different books (well, except for a few who die) so you get to know them. There are also some additional characters that enrich the story line.Refuge reminds me of The Waiting: A Supernatural Thriller by Joe Hart and What We Saw by Ryan Casey. I can still "feel" those books too. When that happens it's a rare treat that makes me smile.

AMAZING!!!
O.M.G!!! I can honestly say I've never read anything like this book - and I absolutely loved it! Each time Refuge 'shifted' to another place, it was like reading a new novel all over again, as the dangers were so diverse and scary! The characters were great, the unlikely hero was great, and each of the survivors had a roll to fill. The writing was excellent, and at times really edge of the seat stuff. I do hope there's going to be a sequel to the book - PLEASE Jeremy, don't let it end like this!!! What a brilliant film this would make. I'm not going to go into detail about the story - just read it for yourself and see if you get as hooked on it as I've been. I'm really sad that I've finished it, which just goes to show what a great book it is.Fans of action, adventure, sci-fi, horror, will love it, as it has something for everyone. Marvellous read.

Any where but here.
The name of this small town suggests its a safe place to be,but after an event happpens, its the last place on earth you would want to be.The town and those inside on the 4th july end up on a tour of something like Dantes 7 visions of hell.Part sci fi/horror that would be enjoyed by those who enjoyed tv shows like lost and the dome, although the book takes nothing much from these.Jeremy bishop states that the book pans out like a tv series, and this it does very well with the bonus that you dont have to wait until next week for the next episode. The fact that the 5 sections of the book were co written with other writers did not spoil the style-you would assume it was written by one.My opinion,it was a great read and did so in 3 nights. It was the kind of story one would expect from mr king.More like this, please mr bishop.

adventure and good solid story telling with good
I started reading Refuge hoping to be entertained. Instead I was not only entertained, but also thrown into a world of excitement, adventure and good solid story telling with good, strong characters that you could connect to.The authors promised us five books that would comprise of a "first season" if this were made for television, and you can tell that was their intention when you read this book. From the start you are thrown into an intriguing mystery of mysterious church bells, changing landscapes and all manner of monsters. But that's not all. The characters feel real as well. You feel that, somehow, you know people in your own life that are like the characters in this book. You can connect to them. They don't just help the plot to move forward. They also have their own little personal stories going on. That is the glue that holds these five books together. The characters. And just when you think you know everyone there is to know in the town, Bishop then introduces more to get to know and become involved with.If anything "Refuge" reminded me a little like Stephen King's "Under the Dome", featuring a town isolated from the outside world, full of mystery and intrigue, but, thankfully, with some answers as well. It's funny, scary, exciting and at some times terrifying. Each book is co-written by different authors, but they all connect to each other seamlessly as if written by one. By the end of the book I was crying out for more. I'd definitely recommend "Refuge" to other readers.

Blown Away
Like another review on here I was a little sceptical about reading 5 books by 5 different authors, most who I have read individually. These guys are genius it absolutely works, I quite literally could not put these books down!I can not recommend this series highly enough and for books 1-5 it's a bargain price too, so what more do you need?A fantastic read, by some truly great authors, for a great price!

A mixture of genres that works so well
I had this title on my wish list for ages, something about the premise in the blurb kept nagging at me "read something other than zombie and werewolf books for goodness sake" so I did and I was so glad I did, it's very difficult to comment beyond the blurb without spoiling the ride so I won't, all I'll say is take a chance and read it, if like me Laymon, Straub, King and Herbert formed part of your history in horror then you will find all the aspects you enjoyed right here
