Tired of remakes, cash-cow franchises, and poor writing? Knives Out is here to save the day!!
Before I begin, let me say, a lot of 1-star reviews are based on the movie having a "political agenda." I was interested to see what spurred those reviews. I couldn't believe it when I came to find out that it was scenes that stood up for an immigrant family. I feel like those 1-star reviews couldn't understand the true nature of those scenes. They were standing up for good people, with genuine, loving, and kind hearts. I think it goes without saying that we should be accepting of all people in our lives. We should also be accepting of all people who aren't. In addition, we all share the Earth, together. Making the borders of the landmass you live on a reason to hate someone else is unbecoming of people. If only they could see that they could've been born in the very same places that they think negatively of. I live in America, and I think we hurt a lot of people in order to take their land from them. We made a big brag about being a place of safety for all people, from all places. We created the idea of coming here to live your dreams. So many positive, kind, and nurturing things. Now, we want to seal ourselves off from the world and keep people away, because they weren't born here. It's depressing. The founders of this country weren't born here. They came from afar and took it from those who were. Why can't people realize we're all in this together? All of us, from everywhere on this planet. Yet, so many people want to find ways to divide ourselves into this group and that group... but there's only one group and it's called Humanity. :(Anyway, this film is fantastic. It's a wonderful murder mystery involving an immensely wealthy family and some of the people who worked at the estate. A sharp investigator heads down an eventful path with many twists and turns. The visual aesthetic is wonderful. Plot is a little zany, but very fitting to the style of the film. The style is serious, yet still a bit off-the-wall. It makes it a fun watch all the way through. It's rooted in seriousness, back-stabbing, suspense, and drama. Still, it manages to be playful and flamboyant. LOVE IT!The dialogue is tip-top! Believable conversations, things that will make you laugh, sad, angry, and so forth. Characters are all very unique, with their own motives and agendas. The mystery of it all is pretty great. I think most people will figure it out just a bit before the climax, but it's hard not to. It does throw you for quite the loop though! The trick was well done! I thought, "they just ruined the whole movie." Oh, but they didn't. I fell right for the bait and couldn't be any happier. Bravo.Prepare to have an extremely fun time seeing how everything unfolds. Couldn't recommend it enough.

A fun and excellent whodunit for the modern age!!
Written and directed by Rian Johnson, Knives Out is a fun and excellent whodunit for the modern age! With a great cast, excellent script, and plenty of twist and turns, a delightful mystery awaits with a fun detective in the mix.Harland Thrombey, a wealthy mystery novelist, has just committed suicide after celebrating his 85th birthday. Though police initially rule his death as such, the arrival of celebrated and famous PI Benoit Blanc create a further investigation. Blanc reveals to police detectives that he was hired by an anonymous person who left money at his hotel room to investigate Thrombey's suicide. A keen and astute PI, Blanc deduces that Thrombey had strained relations with his family members that came to a head the evening of his 85th birthday party and sets off a chain of events into discovering the truth.Knives Out offers a fantastic ensemble cast of characters who have motive and/or something to hide. Veteran actors such as Jamie Lee Curtis and Christopher Plummer, in one his final roles, shine alongside general newcomers such as Ana de Armas who captivates and connects with the audience as Harlan's intelligent and kind nurse. English actor Daniel Craig also shines as Benoit Blanc, a Louisiana PI, and captures the southern drawl accent well. The cinematography and editing with stunning visuals are also well done. The visuals of bright colors, the imposing Thrombey mansion, and the lighting that captures the darker moods add a lot to the story being told. The real technical aspect of Knives Out though is the editing style. Whether it's the flashbacks of the characters recollections or Blanc's explanations in the final reveal, the editing is the true highlight to make effective storytelling.Knives Out is a must watch and a film to add to your physical library!

A slightly-politically-tainted but otherwise superb, intricate, and highly-enjoyable "whodunnit"
4-StarsNO SPOILERS REVIEW!Well, bottom-line first: this is a GREAT movie! The plot is wonderfully crafted and I thoroughly enjoyed it. And using my full mental faculties could predict (playing detective) a few of the pieces together but certainly not all. What a fun ride it was! This movie had almost all positives: cinematography well-done, acting was great, a variety of interesting and believable characters, the plot (most importantly perhaps) was nuanced, detailed, intricate and fantabulous. It was well-paced, interesting, and kept you guessing the whole time while also still revealing more and more progressively throughout, I think all the production values were there. The one potential criticism: why make a film/work-of-art movie into any political statement? At times, it was rather covert or mild, but the one scene about the immigrant worker was quite off-putting it was obnoxiously in-your-face.I would have gladly done without this, or even preferred without it.However, does that ruin the whole film (as some other reviewers say)? No. Not in the least. The whole integrity of the rest of the movie is still entirely intact. To me it is akin to a beautiful cake or pie that has a piece of dirt on it. Take the dirt off and eat the rest. This movie is a wonderful and fun movie. Brush aside the small but present political tainting of a otherwise stellar film.Sidenote, these kind of murder-mystery films are rare, and very well done ones even less. It's nice to see a movie that doesn't need so much violence or vulgarity or shock-values to be able he to stand on its own as a great story/piece-of-work. Cheers to the writer/director/producer (minus the blaring political statements). This is an absolute 5-star film, but I deduct 1 for trying to indoctrinate its audience. Therefore 4 stars.
