Spanish Short Stories for Beginners Volume 2: 20 Captivating Short Stories to Learn Spanish & Grow Your Vocabulary the Fun Way! (Easy Spanish Stories) Review: Furthering progress in learning Spanish – the Lingo Mastery way! - Always encouraging readers to continue their learning experience with Lingo Mastery, this new book continues the goal to make Spanish more accessible to a wider population. In the Introductory Note the goal is stated well: ‘Beginning to learn a language is never easy. There is a certain difficulty in advancing from one level to another…The Spanish tongue, called Castilian, is a Romance language spoken by over 570 million people across the globe and around four different continents (North America, South America, Africa and Europe), and is known as the second most spoken native language in the world after Chinese! These facts alone should be sufficient reason to start learning the language today....Castilian isn’t like English, either, so ensuring you find quality translations and proper, grammatically correct content can also be a challenge. We’ve created this book with the purpose of supplying you with efficient, helpful fun and of course, challenging material that can keep you entertained while teaching you important lessons on the language…’ In this Volume 2 of Spanish short stories, each of the twenty stories follows the pattern Resumen de la historia, Summary of the story, Vocabulary Questions about the story, and Answers. Or as the authors state, ‘Each story will tell a different tale involving unique, deep characters with their own personalities and conflicts, while ensuring that you understand the objective of the particular language device in Spanish. Verbs, Pronouns, Nouns, Directions, Time and Date; all of it will be covered in this Basic-level book for Beginners. At no point will we introduce concepts too difficult for you to grasp, and any complicated vocabulary will be studied at the end of each story.’ An example, in Story 7 Los Juegos Olimpicos – The Olympic Games - the story (translated for demo) ‘The Olympic Games are about to begin: this event which takes place every four years and which captures the attention of so many people and unites the world in an incomparable way; all the participants have the immense opportunity of taking glory back home and making their nation proud, as well as making millions of viewers happy. Around the world there will be people of all countries and social circles watching, and with this something becomes evident: events like the Olympic Games unite humanity in one important fight without violence and allow us to find peace, I only briefly.’ This is but one of the well-written stories with the summary in both Spanish and English and the task of this tale is Vocabulary (very well defined) and a series of questions about the story written in Spanish with the answers likewise in Spanish. The stories vary, as do the lessons taught. This is a very fine introduction to Spanish, appropriate for all age levels, and a book much needed at this time in our national status! Grady Harp, October 19 Review: Great for intermediate spanish - Very cool! Completely in Spanish for native English speakers, with a dictionary of phrases for each chapter for easy to find definitions. You will need an intermediate understanding of Spanish to begin reading this book. Each 'new' phrase is in bold print so you know the definition can be found in the book. This book focuses on common phrases and idioms which can be tough to pick up on when learning another language since they don't translate directly. As someone who learned Spanish soley from (dozens of) books, CDs and movies and now teaching my (8yr old) son, I think this is very valuable. The stories are fun, I think they would be at a 4th-5th grade plot, which would probably engage any age learner as long as they are at an intermediate spanish level. It's another way to add variety to learning another language and the authors of this book really tried to make sure it could stand on its own as an educational stepping stone.

NOT beginner material; but great for intermediate learners
I'd give it 5 stars, but just like the first book, this is not beginner material at all. If you're a beginner, you won't understand a sentence in the book. I've been learning Spanish for a few years, and between the two "beginner" books, I had to make 900 vocabulary word cards for words I didn't know. Having said that, the stories are good and the vocabulary learned are words with high usage rate. The audiobook is great to go along with it. The reader annunciates well.

Awesome book
Very good book for those beginning Spanish. They've done a great job with highlighting unorthodox vocabulary words. The stories are simple and fun.

A fun and terrific tool to add to your Spanish learning toolbox
Terrific format to enhance learning through reading. I love the summaries, the word list, the structure of the book, and the stories. I find the level appropriately challenging and the stories interesting. Reading allows me to grow my vocabulary and understand sentance structure more readily by seeing what I am learning in my immersion classes put to real use. I have recommended this series of books to my classmates and teachers in my immersion school in Mexico.

Disorganized
This book is a bit disorganized in that the stories include some vocabulary words that are defined in order of appearance. Not all words are defined. Some words I don’t know were not defined. In order to go back into the story to look something up it’s difficult to find the vocabulary list section that you are at since the vocabulary words that are defined are not in alphabetical order.

Fun
I have really enjoyed the Lingo short stories. I speak Spanish but I am not complete fluent. The best way to learn is complete immersion but that doesn’t help with pronoun placement. To be able to read these simple stories helps me to check the proper pronoun and placement. The other thing is they are fun. An entertaining way to help learn Spanish.

Vocabulary in context
This a good way to learn a lot of useful vocabulary in context - and context is important! For example, "pagar los recibos" from Chapter 18: Day-to-Day Tasks means to pay (or paying) the bills. "Recibo" can mean receipt, but when one talks of paying a "recibo", it means a bill. The quizzes at the end of each chapter were particularly useful. Nowadays, there is no shortage of Spanish reading material available for free on the Internet, but very little of it comes with quizzes to help you check your understanding. There is a minor issue that could be easily fixed in another version. The table of contents doesn't include the full titles of the chapters. Instead of "Chapter 18: Day-to-Day Tasks: Viviendo solo - Living alone", you just see "Chapter Eighteen."

As a portuguese speaker the book sounds very cleary and useful for me because I've been trying to level up English and Spanish knowledge. Highly recommended and for sure I'm gonna buy another books from the same. ----------------- Soy hablante de la lengua portuguesa, el libro és muy claro e útil para mi porque yo estoy tentando mejorar mi nível en la lengua inglesa y española. El autor tiene una notable dedicación en la tradúcion de las palabras llaves para evitar desentendimentos. Mucho recommendable y con toda la certeza voy a comprar más libros del mismo.

I like how vocabulary is introduced, it allows me to use what I have learned verbally and not translate but learn the proper spelling and grammar of Spanish words in cute stories.

I've previously bought Spanish books to supplement my learning, but I'm really a beginner and the books I bought were too complex for me, I just gave up. Spanish Short Stories for Beginners Volume 2 was perfect for me. If you're new to Spanish, get it, you'll be happy you bought it!

Can't rate these guys strongly enough. Love this way of learning and improving language. So much better seeing words in context in stories than trying to learn them alone. A way to learn that I enjoy and really feel I'm progressing when I finish a story
