Broke after 2 1/3 months. I’m OCD and took very good care of it.
The media could not be loaded. I had this for 3 months and it has already broke. This is my second review. My first review commended this product for its price and accuracy and easy use. BUT, it broke. I am OCD and I never leave the batteries inside when I’m not using for prolonged periods. But now I purchased the 12 pack of calibration Ph solvent to fix the issue. But it will not calibrate. I never got it wet other than the directional line. I clean it with a dry rag and still, it broke. Hopefully I can delete this comment if the seller truly values his/her integrity; I’d be willing to buy again with a simple apology or exchange would be proper. Perfect machine now collecting dust. Please help.

PH meter Dr. Meter
I purchased this meter after having another (different brand) PH meter fail. This meter has worked well for a couple of months now. I’ve found that the lighted background doesn’t really help read the screen any better then when it’s off. Calibrating it can take some time but once you get the hang of it, it goes pretty smoothly. They do supply you with extra calibrating powder so you’ll have enough for a couple calibrations. I store my solution in mason jars and labeled so I can quickly calibrate both PH meters. I now keep a second meter on hand so I can double check the PH. I almost destroyed a crop due to the other meter that failed and readings were 2 points off.

Replaced and working well
This ph meter will not decide on a ph level. It ranges over a full point when trying to wait for it to give a final reading. It never does. up and down, up and down.I was thinking it was affected by electrical fields, so I took it into the center of my front yard to test the theory: up and down, up and down. Nothing is affecting it, it just doesn't work. This is the second one that acts this way. I had an unlighted one that worked for over a year, then started fluctuating. I bought a lighted one to make things easier on myself, and it doesn't work out of the box.If I didn't have a lot of experience with ph meters, I would think I was doing something wrong. Doesn't seem to be any quality testing going on.Ripped off again. sigh.Edit:I was contacted by the seller and offered a replacement. Since I had thrown the bad one out in a temper, I didn't ask, but they offered a replacement anyway. I have used it for a couple days now and the meter is fully functional. It works as it should and seems accurate. I should have requested a replacement from the start. The illuminated display is a real help when reaching down into a well cover.

Good gauge, 1st class customer support, 6 stars
This gauge is accurate and very easy to use. I tested it against my chemistry major friend's lab PH meter and it was within .02. A month or so later I started having calibration problems with the gauge. I contacted their customer service. I didn't check back for a few days. When I checked back, they had not only offered to replace the meter, they had sent me a second email sounding concerned, that they hadn't heard back from me about the first one. I have never before in a review, said a seller deserved 6 stars, Dr.Meter does!

You Pay 4-5x as Much for the Same Quality
When it worked, it worked great. It’s a shame it’s impossible to calibrate.I bought this after I had two of the cheap $10 meters quit on me. I spent the extra money on this only to find it only worked for about as long as those $10 units. It’s funny how this and the others somehow always seem to quit working JUST outside the return window. This one sure seemed more durable to me, worked better, and I’m really bummed it turned out to be crap. What happened:It started randomly giving weird ph levels one day. I kept adjusting my water lower and lower yet this thing kept saying it was higher and higher, at like 9-10ph. Finally I used some dye to find the water was at like 3-4ph. At first I thought no problem, they sent me calibration packets. Got my distilled water and 3 beakers, followed instructions only for the unit to say error on the first calibration solution. Instructions say that means the solution is outside of proper range, but they don’t really tell you how to fix it because I guess you can’t. Like a rationale person I started over, used the second pack, Different jug of new distilled water, again same issue. So I went to my local grow shop, bought another cheap unit, came back and tested the test solution, sure enough it was spot on with what the pack said.So I’m not sure what exactly happened to the unit, bulb is still intact, but it’s now essentially an expensive piece of junk in my drawer. Do yourself a favor and just keep buying the cheapo ones.

No more dipsticks!
As a personal cannabis grower using an indoor tent and AutoPot hydroponic style system keeping pH levels in appropriate range does not need to be a guessing game at reading the dip sticks. This has made my life so much easier and my plants are showing it. I do a daily check on my reservoir water. Keep a gallon or two of distilled water on hand to rinse off the meter and do calibration. Distilled water is all of 99 cents so not a big deal.At first I worried that calibration would be hard but it is not. I have a sensitive digital thermometer and it was no problem making sure the distilled water was at the appropriate temperature. That would be the one thing to pay attention to. I am not sure what would happen if you calibrate outside the temp range instructed but really, if you are into growing and putting a ton of effort and money into making sure everything is perfect and in range, this is no problem. Being somewhat of a chemistry techno-geek though this kind of stuff is right up my alley.Although it does not text chlorine (those meters that are dual chlorine and pH are astronomically expensive) it is worth it to do a spot check on the hot tub, too.The price point on this meter is appropriate. No complaints. Happy plants happy family.
