Hi, I have been unable to find any information from the manufacturer about the item being BPA free. I am inclined to think that as it is not mentioned it is not BPA free. Thanks

Are smaller bowls, to make hamburger and to melt cheese available for this?

No, I don’t think so. Hamburger will get wet, cheese also need a dry heat, not to get steamed.

Is the food containervplastic or glass?

Food container is plastic. Some concerns have been raised that the plastic contains Bisphenol A, a compound that could possibly leech into food with potential harmful effects. I am happy to use my steamer as I feel sure Morphy Richards would not market an item which had serious health risks.

Can you cook directly in the metal containers or do you need to use the plastic inserts?

Steamed foods, like vegetables etc go straight into the metal containers. The plastic inserts are only need for rice, fish etc.
