R161018 pH Solution Phenol Red with Chlorine Neutralizer, 1/2-Ounce

Replacement for Red Phenol from BioguardTM test kit. Cheaper and just as efficient. Because the solution does not seem to have as much colorant into it, I simply use half the water in the test tubes, but the results are identical. Otherwise the color would be the right tint, but faded.

Weak color.

Turns a shade of pink not even offered on bottle tester. Can't judge pH at ALL. IN FACT THERES NO COLOR CHANGE NO MATTER WHAT YOUR PH IS!

I question if this product is genuine. I’ve been handling my own pool care for over 10 years. I’ve never seen phenol red coloration so pale. I’ve used both Pentair Rainbow and Taylor products so I know what I’m looking for. After testing my pool yesterday I *almost* dosed the pool with soda ash then thought better of it and went and bought test strips instead. The strips confirmed my suspicion that this brand new bottle of phenol red is not good stuff. Avoid. I’ll be ordering more phenol red from another retailer.

I bought Phenol red solution to test pH of my pool. When you apply the 5 drops into the Pentair Rainbow tester and agitate, the solution almost becomes clear vs. the varying red colors needed to ID your pH level. This is in stark contrast to the Pentair Rainbow Phenol red reagents I have been using for the past 4 years.

This is NOT the same product by Pentair. It’s watered down and does not appear as concentrated.

Weaker solution (seems watered down) and long weight/price made this product not worth it. Better to buy a new tester kit.
