I bought this product for myself, not for a baby. It is very thick and white, so I will not be putting it on my face any more. It looks like it has zinc oxide in it, because that comes out very white, but the ingredient is (I think it's called) titanium dioxide, which I believe is considered by dermatologists to be a good blocking sunscreen. I am giving it five stars because most people don't mind putting white stuff on a baby if it's going to protect them, and THIS COMPANY'S PRODUCTS ARE GREAT!!! Among other ingredients in this are lemongrass and cedar, and both of these are very effective at repelling mosquitoes and other biting insects. So not only are you protecting your baby from the sun's harmful rays, you are protecting him or her from getting bitten! I lived in Central America and I was constantly getting bitten and had to start using the stuff with DEET in it because I had scabs and welts all over me. Then I tried some California Baby lotion that wasn't even specifically for repelling insects, and it worked AS WELL AS THE DEET!!!! I would guess that perhaps it needs to be applied more often, but I keep that lotion on hand and put it on every time I go out because where I live I get bitten too. I can not say enough good things about this company's ingredients and how effective they are at repelling insects. The only 2 negatives about this particular product is how chalky white my face was (but I am not a baby, who does not care about that stuff), and the lack of friendliness that I felt when I contacted the company. Otherwise, five stars all the way!!! And by the way I did not get sunburned! I will be using it on other body parts than my face in the future.PS Some people have complained about the citrus smell- oh well, I like the smell; to each his own.....

We are careful about the chemicals that we put on our kids skin. This is a great product that saves time, particularly when the bugs are bad. The smell is a little more pungeant, but it is more pleasant to us that the bugs!

The Summer Blend version of this sunscreen has a strong lemongrass fragrance. It smells like bug spray. It really irritates my toddler and he rubs at his eyes constantly if I use it. The regular unscented version is fantastic and we've been using it for years now on our older son, skip this and go for that one instead.

I am a big fan of this product b/c it is a time-saver. My toddler gets fussy when I am putting on sunblock and this product saves time by only having to slather one lotion on her. The citronella scent is faint but still there enough to make me feel it is blocking the bugs. So far no burns and no bites!! (I would have given it 5 stars but am not sure how water-proof it is... I generally re-apply after swimming)

This is one of the few products on the market that contains few harmful chemicals and actually works. This particular sunscreen contains a bug repellant as well, and as anyone who has tried to apply a sunscreen to a child knows, one less thing that you have to struggle to put on them is a good thing. We spent a week in a very mosquito infested beach area and it worked like a charm and kept my kids both sun burn and bite free.

Really good stuff and goes a long way! It is expensive but a dime size really covers my face, neck and chest. It does sweat or wash off easily.

Have used this on my kids for about 9 summers now...works for bugs and sun without toxic stuff...safe for babies and doesn't run into their eyes and sting when they sweat or cry. As they got older and I needed to cover more skin surface, I switched to the basic bug and sunscreen products from the neck down, but still use this exclusively on their faces.

Ordered in July and received the product that expired in April. Usually love California Baby sunscreen but ordering it new and receiving something already expired and not eligible for return, is super annoying to say the least.
