KAL bone meal powder is an excellent source of calcium for your home-prepared dog meals.
I prepare a week's worth of my "Life Extension Puree" (15+ carefully selected vegetables, fruits and berries), a cup of which I add to their protein (beef, lamb, pork, chicken, liver, or sardines, et al) and carbohydrate (rice or pasta) for their twice-daily meals. It is necessary to supplement this food, once daily, with various vitamins and minerals and oils and salt. *Calcium* is key. After much research, I chose KAL Bone Meal Powder as the best source of calcium, adding a teaspoon daily.I thoroughly mix the KAL and other supplements in with their meal. No problems, and it's quite affordable. My girls gobble it down and lick their bowl clean. On the other hand, kibble kills, surely shortening lives by a few years at least, especially with large breeds.-- First, it has a ridiculously unnecessary and adverse omega 6/omega 3 ratio of 7/1 (required by the AAFCO standard -- this standard is based largely on a 1200-page German book that is based on little to no science). I used their standards for vitamins and minerals where it was based on science, and otherwise substituted my own (based on human standards, adjusted to dog dosages based on relative body volumes). I always erred on the side of less rather than more where too much (Vitamin D; Selenium; etc.) could be an issue.-- Second, and more important, the *dry heat* used to turn mush into kibble creates significant, *highly deleterious* amounts of Advanced Glycation End-products. Given that kibble is the primary source of a dog's food, this aspect is the equivalent of your eating charred, grill-broiled foods for your entire diet! Insane! The only available dog food that I would use if I didn't make my own is "Badlands Range". Their food is similar to mine, but it is air-dried (no heat, no AGEs), and their underlying science is excellent. But if you're going to make your own, I highly recommend KAL bone meal powder as your source of calcium.

Great for supplementing RAW food diet & ingredients list!
I use this primarily for supplementing my dogs raw food diet. I don't have a bone grinder, and this is great supplement as KAL uses a FOOD GRADE bone meal, and the company strives to use organic and non-GMO ingredients as much as possible. I can tell the difference, literally, in how my dogs eyes look! I was amazed at how fast my girls were showing results at the supplementation!I also bake some into my husbands and my meatloaf, and do not notice it, at all....thought I would. It is a white, soft powder that doesn't seem to have much of a taste of its own, but doesn't taste bad, either. it's just kind of neutral tasting, so if you add it to anything, you won't notice it, and it has been ground so fine, that it dissolves into about anything you can think of think of as well. it is NOT grainy.KAL Bone Meal is intended to provide nutritive support for healthy bones, teeth, nerve and muscular function. This pure Bone Meal is sterilized and edible.Product Size: 16oz ( 450g) Powder Directions: Mix 1 slightly rounded teaspoon with your favorite protein drink, juice or yogurt. Good.
Kind of gritty, but daily use has stopped my bones from getting more porous. No cheap, heart-threatening calcium carbonate. Just bone, finely ground. Unique product, but the price is going through the roof.

Works for me as an alternative to raw turkey necks, which crowded my freezer!
I mixed this in with some probiotic supplement powder, fish oil, and various other things my dogs like for taste. (mainly sweet potato, carrot, and applesauce) I give both of them a large scoop of this mixture each day after my male dog was put in Antibiotics for a UTI, and previously, he had been suffering from dandruff, which my female dog eventually did as well.I mainly bought the bone meal powder due to my female dog's scent glands not being expressed without her being fed bones, which were usually in the form of raw turkey necks from Walmart. I still give them these as a treat, but I wanted to see if the bone meal powder was as effective, and it certainly is. (I can tell by the hard, lighter brown sections in her feces that she normally only gets when she eats the raw turkey necks.)I wish I could say how much is in each scoop, but I can't. The mixture I created was about a gallon worth of scoopable goop, and each scoop is contains other good things. The dogs enjoy it a lot and even though its not due to the bone meal powder, the combination of the bone meal, fish oil, and probiotics has resulted in my male dog's feces being back to normal quickly after the antibiotics were discontinued and both dogs stopped flaking with dandruff immediately.
