Excellent Quality for the Price
As everyone knows, dashi is vital for making many Japanese soups and sauces: miso soup, mentsuyu, wakame soup, etc. There is no substitute except from making it from scratch. The product does its job, adds the necessary flavor, and is easy store since it is a dry product and not the usual liquid form. You can never make miso soup without it!

Dashi with ease
Got tired of the process of making dashi. This is very close to the real stuff , but in a hurry. It's also getting hard to find real Bonito. Makes a decent Miso soup. Taste like most Shushi houses have.

Great for miso soup
I use this for my daily miso soup. Great broth. I use 1/2 tsp in 10 ozs water + 1 rounded tsp of red miso. One bag lasts for, well, I don't know yet. It's been a couple months. Very economical.

Tasty Ingredient
I've never worked with Dashi before, though I'd probably eaten it... M. Pollan's book, "Cooked" inspired me to explore this umami-creating ingredient, describing how it's created and suggesting that it is the 5th flavor humans seek (i.e., sweet, salty, sour, etc.). I found this product has introduced meaty/smoky richness in all of the dishes I have tried it in (not just Asian-inspired). Anyway, they send quite a bit to work with, and I'm happy about that. I would recommend (already have) to my family members who enjoy cooking.

Quick and tasty dashi on demand
I've gotten into the habit of having a nice bowl of dashi or dashi-miso with every meal. It is comfort food for sure, also fills me up for fewer calories. But it takes time to make it from scratch, and many of the instant powders have ingredients I don't like, or are in single-serving packages that aren't great environmentally. This one is easy and clean, and 2 pounds will last awhile!

I used to be a chef at Japanese restaurant
I have used many different kinds of so called DASHI powder, and I think this item is the best you can get for the price in USA.Of course you can get better items in Japan cheaper but we do not have much choice here in US.
