Methods of Suicide
E**M
Brief and Succint
It was short, and certainly not comprehensive. It left out some very relevant details (advice isn't the right word but it's close) and could have used a lot more medical detail and a lot less snarky opinion. I think the opinion was meant to be humorous but mostly just came through as kind of bitchy. The end was a nice way to encourage the depressed and sincerely suicidal to get some help and stay alive without getting wordy or preachy. I appreciated that a lot. If it had been longer, hadn't had so many anemic little snipes, had contained more of the truly interesting medical facts about our human anatomy and a more in depth examination of just why it is so difficult to kill a human body and especially your own, it would have been MUCH better. I feel like the author didn't try very hard, and is capable of much better. This would be a good place to start for what could be expanded to a more interesting medical history/anatomical & social analysis without losing the basics of a manual and analytical work on common methods of suicide. It could use a lot more material, and I know that information exists and is available.Hell, maybe I'LL write it.

Better than expected
Funny, clever, and irreverent - just how a book like this should be. I learned a lot but giggled even more. I hope that people who read this stick around to see what else the author writes!

A Brilliant, Witty, and Informative Text
Sascha von Bornheim's book is highly informative with a wry flavor throughout. I plan to quote him in a Sylvia Plath text I'm writing: "Death is a door that's always open. But think hard before you walk through it, because there is no way back." Each manner of suicide is given two ratings: one for effectiveness, and the other for the gore factor--very useful if you care about the people who find you. I was astounded to learn that drugs work on 1.8% of the time. I have ordered additional copies for my son who majored in psychology. This is a quick read, but it is packed with information that is surely the result of a great deal of research. I cannot praise von Bornheim's work enough. If humorous texts are something that you enjoy, let me put in a plug for my new book, Grammar Without Road Rage and Punctuation Without Panic Attacks.

a brief review of a brief book
Let me warn you that this book is very brief (45 pages of large type) and devoid of detailed information. Numerous pages have only a line or two (or a barely-relevant picture) before the next chapter starts on the next page. This "book" was more like reading someone's blog about suicide. Each method is given a rating of effectiveness and "gore"--except that the ratings are senseless. There is only one statistic included in the entire book. If this book was turned in as a college-level course project, it would be given a failing grade. It was a great idea but poorly executed.

Enlighting
The author does a good job explaining different ways of death by suicide. Each method is described as horrible ways of dying. This is a good read for individuals that are curious about the ways people commit suicide.

The book was fine, the length was not.
I cannot imagine paying $8 for a paperback and regret paying $4 for this senseless nonsense. Seriously disappointed. What humor? That's the joke!!!This "book" was a 5 minute read from front to back... even short stories last longer than that!Everything I read was nothing new. The internet provides more information than this crap.I really wonder, did Sascha von Bornheim put any thought into this "book"? He obviously didn't research. The concept is good but the material is lacking.DO NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT WASTE YOUR BUCK ON THIS JUNK!!!!!!!!

Droll
This could perceived as an insincere but useable instruction manual on an intentional life exit. Each method presented includes an evaluation of its effectiveness, violence, shock to the discoverer, and ease of completion. If this had been done in a less sarcastic way it would have been more palatable. However, the assessments were quite informing.

Meh.
The book is thin literally and metaphorically. There are no great details, no in-depth techniques discussed, not well experimented. It's treated as if it's a joke. The articles within are informally written, no sense of professionalism. It offers only of the common types and does not consider 'other' ways in doing so.Includes an extremely arbitrary "Effectiveness Rating" as well as a "Gore Rating" system which is rather intuitive and redundant.I've only purchased this book for it's price, as I was researching a detailed approach to my degree in Criminology, whereas books on suicide costs a considerable amount of money - more than GBP100, possibly due to the fact that technical details are included that this book clearly lacks.I've very disappointing, and anyone who wished to further their research - solely for research purposes, is highly not recommended to purchase it.But one thing that I in congruence with Sascha von Bornheim - out of the 10 minutes reading to complete this - is that if one were to commit suicide, it doesn't really matter if you buy this or not does it? After all, what matters is not of the method, but of the will.
