can I use this for Isopropyl Alcohol

Hi! My name is Mike at Bel-Art/H-B Instrument & SP Scienceware. This particular hydrometer, no. Alcohol is always lighter than water, so if you were to use a hydrometer designed to measure Specific Gravity, your SG range would need to be below 1.000. We also have hydrometers specifically designed to measure the % alcohol by volume for isopropyl alcohol. The part number for the range I think you are looking for (50-100%) is B61809-4100. Remember, if you wish to measure the alcohol content of hand sanitizer, you'd need to measure the alcohol BEFORE it is added to the aloe/glycerin. Hi! My name is Mike at Bel-Art/H-B Instrument & SP Scienceware. I'm sorry, no. Hydrometers do measure density, but if you measured the thick, viscous mix of the hand sanitizer you would never be able to know if the density you were measuring was that of the aloe, of the alcohol + aloe mix, or of the less viscous aloe since you added the alcohol. I'm assuming you wish to measure the alcohol content in the hand sanitizer, and to do so you would need an % alcohol hydrometer, but even with this you could only make a measurement of the alcohol percentage before you mixed the alcohol and aloe together, again for the same viscosity reasons. To achieve the most accurate alcohol content, you would have to measure the alcohol % alone with an alcohol hydrometer. This percentage would have to be greater than the percent alcohol you wanted to end up with. Let's say you have 1 cup of 100% alcohol. If you add 1 cup of aloe and glycerol mix you would have 2 cups of 50% alcohol-aloe-mix. I hope this answered your question, but if not, please email me at michael.grzelak@spindustries.com…
