No, it's mostly using the Wii Motion Plus remotes. The Gamepad is an integral part of the two-player baseball and golf however.

If you don't have a physical disk you can download Wii Sports Club from the Nintendo E-Store for free and it gives you 24 hours demo time (realtime, not playing time) with the game. After that, you can purchase a a sport for $9.99 for permanent access, or you can get a day pass for $1.99, like if you just have some friends over and want to play for a day. Bowling, Golf and Tennis are each a separate $9.99, while Boxing and Baseball are combined into a single purchase, so its $39.96 to purchase all the games online. The current $80(!) price for the physical disk is not worth it unless you have no internet, ever.

It's the same thing as wii Sports just upgraded to 1080p and also features online play. I think there may be a few new training features but mostly it's the exact same. It works with wiimotes and gamepad too
