Q: what does this filter ( Nikken pimag aqua pour express ) , filter?

This is a micro sponge pre filter and is used with the carbon filter that goes with the AP Express. It is recommend to replace every 5 years at least or when it is stained complete through. It is great for catching the sediment in the water.

Q: What is the diameter of the sponge?

About 4 and 1/8th inches wet. I would gusee that it is similar dry, out of the box, but don't know for sure.

Q: Why are these considerably more expensive than directly through the Nikken page? Am i missing something?

I’m not sure about the original but we’ve had our Pimag for 8-10 years and it works great with it
