I removed this grass after it grew but it seems to be a solid product
Hello,I'm somewhat of a grass growing novice. I did plant this and it grew unexpectedly well but in the end I did not like how it looked with the rest of my lawn (not the product's fault). I spent 4 hours removing the tall fescue I recently grew with a weed puller, re-soiling and planting a thinner/finer grass. The reason I'd give this product positive reviews is that the product grew really well and it did have deep roots. The issue is I didn't know it would look so bunchy in my lawn and it seemed to be growing faster than my other grass which caused an uneven lawn.If I needed this grass to prevent soil erosion such as my backyard where no one really sees or go much I would buy this product again. The roots being that deep definitely has benefits and requires less maintenance eventually. It is also removable if with a weed puller or I'm sure herbicides if you need to change grass types or don't like it.Update: I've increased the review to 5 stars after trying many other grasses. I landscaped/cleared brush on a large steep hill to improve access to my backyard as my house is built into a hill. I removed so much plant life that I wanted to replace it with grass asap. I chose this grass again due to low maintenance and it is starting to grow.

Prep, patience & practice
I like this seed, I don’t love it. I purchased a 3lb and 7lb bag for my 1000 sq ft area to seed. I live in a transition zone 5b. High desert (very dry, low humidity with little to no rain) and 7000 ft in elevation. (Northern NM)I spent a week prepping the area by hand tilling the soil and burnt the weeds prior with a weed torch. The window for seeding here is very small. I finished the prep on a Saturday with temps in the high 80’s and watered, seeded, start fertilized and covered with a frost cloth to keep the seedlings moist on Sunday when the weather dropped to the 70’s with lows in the 40’s. The last picture is today, day 27 since seeding Sept 9th. I watered 3 times a day and left the frost cloth covering on for about the first 2 weeks until I saw decent germination. Due to the environment here, straw covering doesn’t work because we get too much wind. A local greenhouse owner gave me the cloth tip a few years ago and it’s been a really successful way to seed here. It allows water, sunlight and air to penetrate through the frost cloth. I purchased 2 here on Amazon (10x50 feet I think they were).I would say germination was about 75%. I will fertilize and overseed again in the spring and fall next year. After that, I have a lot of clover to battle with. I’m satisfied with the results compared to the before but will probably move to a Scott’s rapid tall fescue next time I seed. I used a Scott’s “seeding” fertilizer with a pre-emergent for weeds that “supposedly” wont negatively effect the germination. I did still have tons of new clover come up but it didn’t appear to effect the germination rate of the tall fescue. Now, at day 27 I just have to water once a day-cut back last week. I still have to keep an eye on the weather as we do get freezes this time of year. I simply cover with the cloth until after day 45 (since seeding) at night if the temps get down to freezing. The cloth protects the new grass down to 21 degrees Fahrenheit. If you live in an easier climate with a better window, you will probably get better results than I did. It’s a difficult place to seed grass here but a learning process, none the less. I’m up for the challenge.

Great grass seed!
I have been using this grass seed for over 9 years and has always worked the best in my yard compared to other grass seed's. It really works well for high traffic areas and grows well. Just follow the directions for seeding and watering when reseeding your lawn.

Wow, it's tall!! please read the final section!! not a joke
Much of the grass is short, sort of like you might find in a typical lawn. But much of it is TALL. I didn't realize that Pennington had mastered SUPER TALL FESCUE. Admittedly it looks a bit odd when the majority of the grass is about 2 inches tall after 5 weeks, but quite a bit of it is now 15 inches tall. If I wait until the old style normal grass is 3 inches tall to mow this new super grass may go to seed and take over the planet. With each new house I have started a lawn from seed. With a strict HOA I would be getting notices by now. While am amused by my new lawn, if this tall stuff is not an annual variety I will have to apply roundup to the whole thing and start over with another brand of seed. On the plus side this mess germinated quicklyFOUR DAYS AFTER FIRST CUTTINGFour days after its initial cutting the SUPER TALL, which I am certain you understood to be weed grass, started to go to seed. Within 2 months of planting I have to kill my new lawn. I cannot cut it every four days and if I let it go longer I run the risk of these weed seeds germinating and then I can never get rid of it.I initialy started this as a joking matter thinking that I could put up with it until the spring. Killing your lawn two months after you plant it is no joke. IF YOU BUY THIS GRASS SEED YOU WILL GET WEEDS LIKE ALL OF THESE OTHER REVIEWS CLAIM. WHY DIDN'T I BELEIVE THEM? THEY ARE TELLING THE TRUTH.
