Serial Wombat is a brilliant product...
The Serial Wombat is WAY MORE than an I2C expander. As soon as I read about the Wombat, I designed four of them into a board that I developed to provide IoT swimming pool automation (circulation, heating, pool chemistry), based on a DFRobot WiDo Arduino. I received four of them and installed them in the sockets on the PCB. Then it took me a couple of hours to use the libraries to accommodate 6 LEDs, 6 pushbuttons, two hall effect flow sensors, two rotary encoders, two analog chemistry sensors, and four tri-state jumpers - all with four 8-pin DIPs. The Wombat libraries unload a TON of real-time computing from your Arduino, and dozens of hours of coding, and Jon's code is way better than mine! I just compiled the revised Wombat function calls and downloaded it, and it worked first time. It is truly a unique product for I/O intensive embedded applications. And the documentation is way better than most Arduino products; that's important to an old fellow that likes to read. Brilliant product!

Outstanding expandability w/ the simplicity of I2c
outstanding functions, simple code, made reading rotary encoders a snap. No more interrupts to deal with, just a simple call and you get your #. frees up my Arduino to do other things while the Wombat keeps track of things.

Easy to use!
These ICs are everything advertised. I am planning to use 4 of them for an IoT application that requires my ESP32 Nodemcu board to communicate with 4 RFID modules. Since the ESP doesnt have 4 serial ports and the RFID modules don't support addresses these serial wombats were the perfect solution. If you are familiar with i2c and uart in arduino you can get these up an running in less than 30 minutes. Its obvious the maker is passionate about his project and has responded to support e-mails.

Solved my problems using a Wemos with an epaper display
I'm creating a project that has a wemos and an epaper display. There were not enough gpio's left after connecting the display (the epapers spi interface used 6). I came across the wombat and it was exactly what I needed. The epaper also takes a relatively long time to update, complicating doing button debounce. The wombat solved that problem and I'm looking forward to using it's other features in future projects.

Great Coprocessors for ESP32
Adding smart ports us super easy with these. Looking forward to the larger option but already used 4 sets of 4 chips in several ESP32 controller projects.

Clean and compact
Easy to use. If you have previous experience with io expanders and want something more compact then this is for you. I tried it out on a arduino uno r3. I need to try out on a seeeduino xiao but I Positive it should work.

chip unstable
not sure whats going on with these, upon loading the examples they worked sorta, analog values would have a mid value (1149mv) most of the time instead if my pot value now the chip is failing I/O tests, all 4 are doing this?? idk whats up with them,
