*Original review below*. Updated two weeks out of return window to reflect that the shade has broke. Its a little difficult to explain without showing it but a key component is made if plastic. Plastic mostly doesn’t not like heat, nor stresses applied in the heat. So I went to take down the shade after several hours of it being deployed in the (hot) car. As I went to retract it the whole thing just collapsed. It is not fixable. I cannot recommend this product as it’s durability is poor. Save you money and get something that will last. Will take the matter up with Amazon. *Top marks for all the main things - quality of build, ease of use etc. and it certainly works well. However, I bought this with our car in mind and I have to say that, in my opinion, it is better suited to a larger vehicle, the pickup truck in our case. This shade deploys like a rectangular umbrella but obviously flat so that it can sit up against the windshield. Like an umbrella is has extending rods or “spokes” that hold it out in shape. The main concern for me was that, in the car, these spokes were in contact with and pushing down against the dashboard. Given the incline of the car windshield and in order to get the proper placement of the shade these spokes will be in contact with the dash. I believe over time this could potentially scratch the dash especially if care is not taken when pulling the shade in and out of position. In our case the car is brand new so I decided I didn’t want to take the risk. This problem presented itself on a car but on a larger vehicle with less of a windshield incline this is not a factor as there is no dash contact with those spokes. In this case it is a perfect shade.

We use this for our truck it is a great size for that. We have a Ram 1500 it fits almost perfectly for it's windows. We also like that it's easy to expand and contract so it's easy to put away. Definitely helps keep the vehicle a few degrees cooler. Every little bit helps in Arizona Summers!

Reading the comments one would think folks expect a device like this to be made of gold and form-fitted for each and every vehicle ever made. If that is your expectation, I agree with those folks, look elsewhere. However, if you are looking for a window shade that opens like an umbrella (think no more of those wire rimmed devices you can never get back to their original shape so they fill your entire back seat between uses), this device is worth a look. My 2001 Toyota Avalon windshield is a bit too big for this device to fully cover and my rearview mirror is a hassle as there is no cutout in the shield for a mirror, but it still covers more than 98% of my windshield and it is easy enough to slide it under the mirror when putting it up. What I LOVE the most is it opens and closes with ease and fits in the glove box when not in use. Major CON: no doubt this thing will not last long. The inside mechanisms are all made of flimsy plastic and after 2 uses it is clear they won't last long. I do hope being careful with the device I can prolong its life, but time will tell, for now I will just be easy with it and hope for the best.

The idea of it being an umbrella for ease of putting up, removal and storage is fine. Two issues would be it’s not one size fits all. Fits better in my wife’s van which has a taller windshield than my truck which has a shorter one. Also, the shaft can push against the center screen or buttons depending on the angle of the windshield, which can scratch or damage something if you’re not careful. Covers about 96% with a couple inches on each side of exposed glass. I wish the material was a bit thicker, but it does reflect enough to reduce the cabin temp. Only issue is it’s not well made so after a few months of opening and closing, some of the metal parts are starting to break off. Not sure I would buy this particular one again, but the idea is great

Great idea to use for our SUV. Was worried it might be too small, but we have a 2019 Yukon, and fits with about 3" open on one side. So not too bad. Would be nice if the handle could be maneuvered to not block our DVD screen, we watch movies in the ferry line up.

Good with big cars
