How do I turn the black switches to the "on" position? I have tried to move them many times and cannot get either switch to move.

The materials list is brass & rubber. I don't know why they do not mention plastic which it obviously has (the valve handles). Kinda hard to find lead in stuff these days. Would be bad I think for this product as lead is generally soft and would corrode with the water. J don't think you will ever find out for sure with inexpensive products. The only way is to buy one and take it to a lab and have it checked. Probably very expensive to do so I would think.
