Beautiful book, filled with lovely samples of different calligraphies. I like having it mostly for its aesthetic value .

Good but earlier versions better.
I really enjoyed to book, looking back at the earlier versions I enjoyed them better due to the amount of actual alphabets ie. 20th edition. This latest version is more art like not as many alphabets. You be the judge.

Excellect calligraphy book!
The Speedball Textbook is published every several years as a overview of the subject. Each edition is unique. All are outstanding with beautiful artwork and instructional exemplars, and this one is, too. I like the 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 size that is spiral bound that lays flat. This one definitely belongs in any collection.

A great addition to your calligraphy library
These kinds of books are my jam. I love writing in various forms/fonts of calligraphy, and this book gives an array of wonderful styles. The book pages are sturdy, and they lay flat for ease of use as I practice a particular font. Highly recommend.

Not like the old days
I bought this for my son who was gaining an interest in calligraphy. I have a copy of the 20th edition and this one is nowhere near as complete. It's slick and fancy but way fewer alphabets to look at. I was, frankly, disappointed

Not great for instruction, but pretty pictures
This version feels like a who's who of current popular calligraphers and their works. It should not be put into the Speedball learning kit with the false expectation that someone new to calligraphy could easily pick it up and begin studying what was produced here. For comparison purposes:In the previous edition (24th), there were at least 17 pages with tips, tricks, types of lettering and nibs to help the beginner see what's out there. This book has 4 pages on those topics. In the interest of fairness, the 23rd edition only has 6 such pages, but they feel more robust than what is presented here. Why this is not a book to learn from:Quite a few of the scripts don't have exemplars to show how the letters are constructed. In the broad-edge section, most of the scripts have exemplars; however, in the pointed pen section, one of the six named scripts has directional arrows.TLDR:Not much in the way of useful information, but a lot of pretty and colorful pictures.
