I bought this knife for smaller utility tasks in the shop or while camping. It's the ideal size for sharpening cooking sticks, making feather sticks and cutting notches etc. The shorter and thinner blade gives more control and precision for fine tasks than a Companion or Companion HD. With a bit of practice it is easy to shave feathers about as wide a thin piece of twine....great tinder material. The sheath has a tab that allows stacking multiple knives together. It gets a bit bulky but sometimes it comes in handy to carry this blade in carbon and a stainless Model 546 for use in wetter conditions. One con about this knife, the spine is not ground or polished but it also is not square enough to use for striking sparks off a ferro rod. I wish Mora would grind all blade spines to a sharp 90 degree edge on each side. I like carbon blades but they do tend to rust easily so after some experimenting with creating an oxide coating (see my Companion HD for the full story), I decided to cold blue this blade with Super Blue (Birchwood Casey 3oz bottle). Easy, quick (about 15 minutes), not too messy and way less smell than using hot vinegar or apple cider vinegar! It also does a much better job IMHO. Get some cotton balls, a glass of water to neutralize the reaction, acetone (nail polish remover borrowed from She Who Must Be Obeyed) and some super fine steel wool to very lightly polish between applications. Apply a coat of mineral or gun oil after and let dry for 24 hours then wipe clean. The cold blue should reduce the tendency to rust but it should still be lightly oiled periodically. I cut a lilac branch, trimmed the twigs, debarked the outer and inner layers, removed a few small knots and scraped the branch smooth afterwards with minimal wear localized primarily to the left side (I'm right handed) and on the most used 1" of the blade. Afterwards the knife still sliced paper as well as it did when it was new. I doubt that the bluing will hold up to sharpening more than once or twice but a shiny Scandi grind and blued blade will still look great. It would also be easy enough to use a Q-Tip to touch up the grind after sharpening too.
