Great work boots
Some of the best work boots you could ask for, great in mud, rain and winter. Didn't have to double my socks up or anything. Steel toes are great too, had a 28ft long, several hundred lb crate lid get dropped on them and didn't feel it.

Keen Utility Pittsburgh ST Boots
I bought these Keen Pittsburgh boots for their steel toe ASTM F2413-11 M I/75 C/75 EH rating with oil and slip resistance, as it is a requirement for my job. I also wanted something waterproof, and more on the warm side, as I am out on the streets of the South Bronx every day. I work in every weather condition and temps above 100 F down to sub zero. I walk on every kind of surface under the sun, outside and in. My job also takes me through every kind of businesse, basement, greasy kitchen, factory, warehouse, shop, you name it.The boots are rugged and hefty, yet they feel light when walking in them. There are a lot of reviews out there that say their boots are the most comfortable they have ever worn, but seriously, these boots are really, really comfortable. I'm used to going through a period of time with other brands where I accept that my feet and ankles are going to go through the pain of breaking in a new pair of boots. Not with these! I don't feel like I'm wearing steel toe work boots at all. I feel like I'm cheating the system somehow! The comfort of the boots seems to have a lot to do with the material used for the top center (under the laces) and tongue. It is a reinforced synthetic fabric with very good padding, rather than a hard stiff leather tongue. I also love how the tongue is not a separate piece from the body of the boot. It keeps the boot sealed from anything getting in.The tops of the boots above the ankles have good thick padding that make the boots feel like they're giving you a big firm warm hug. There is also a thinner padding in the lining throughout the rest of the boot that works for both comfort and insulation. All that goodness on the inside, and bad ass ruggedness on the outside.Quality, tough, materials. Double stitching all over the boot. I didn't find a single frayed or hanging thread. The leather is tough, but almost has a slight suede to it. If you run your finger across it, you can feel the leather is actually infused with a waterproof substance. It almost feels kind of like a light wax.The metal lace rings and hooks are something that will hold up after time. The top hooks are locking and hold the laces at the tension you pull them. I was a little concerned about having the one fabric lace strap between the lower lace rings and upper hooks, but to my surprise there is a hard plastic sleeve inside the end of the strap where the lace goes through (see picture). This will keep the laces from wearing through the strap. Also, all the fabric straps on the boot have a reflective material in them, which helps with high visibility at night, or bad weather. The tread is good and grippy, the lugs are nice and beefy but not cumbersome. The front of the sole angles up a little at the toes which works really well with your natural walking motions to actually help propel you a bit. I actually end up using less effort to walk!Last but not least, these boots just look friggin good. I love the style and the color. And if you don't like one color, Keen makes these in five different colors. All in all, these boots have exceeded all of my expectations. I couldn't be happier.

so it was easy to go take a look at all the different ...
I bought these boots because nearly everyone at my workplace wears Keen boots. They were all fairly positive about the comfort and durability at the Keen's price point. I don't live that far from Portland and the Keen Garage, so it was easy to go take a look at all the different models. In the past, I've primarily worn Danners. However, I can't justify the price on what a new pair of comparable Danner boots cost, nor do I care for the quality of the previous two pairs of Danners that I've purchased. That being said, here's my experience with this specific Keen boot. The boots took 3 weeks to start to really break in. This is longer than any other boot that I have ever purchased, after 20+ years of buying work boots. I do not care for the material at the opening of the boot. In my opinion, the material at the top of the boot is too high, it digs into the back of my leg. Even after the 3 weeks that the foot of the boot took to break in, the upper heel still is fairly stiff and digs in a bit. Not at all comfortable. However, I must admit that I usually buy an 8" boot and am not used to more of a 6" boot height. So maybe it's just me. I know some of the other styles have a lower, more scalloped, back material to them. The lacing system on the boots is one of the best I've ever had. Easiest to lace up in the morning and stay tight all day long. This will be a mandatory item on any future boot purchase as I now wonder why I ever bought boots that don't lace this easy and stay this tight all day long. And the tongue of the boot stays where it should. I've had some boots in the past that the tongue always slides to one side no matter what you do.The steel toe is barely noticeable. I've been walking around in the cold and over a foot of snow the last week. It does get slightly colder than a non-steel toe boot. But my feet run hot most of the time anyway, so barely noticeable to me. Some of my coworkers mentioned that they can feel the cold from the steel toe.One thing I would change is I wish I had gone with a more flat sole. It's what I'm used to with the Danners that I have purchased in the past. But, I'm all and all pretty satisfied with the boot. I paid quite a bit lower than what the local Keen store would sell them to me. I tried on a regular width 14 at the Keen store and thought they would be alright, but there was just enough rub with the front of the boot that I decided to buy the 2E from Amazon. The Keen store did not have a 15 to try on, so I went with what I thought would work best. Usually I wear a 15 in running shoes, but it all depends on brand and style. My feet aren't killing me at the end of the day with these. Overall a good buy if you can get them at or under the $150 price point.I would ultimately give these boots 3.5 stars. The main reason they went to a 4 star was because of Amazon's awesome customer service. I noticed this morning that the heel in the right boot is sucking air and water giving that squish sound when I walk. If you've ever had a pair of shoes/boots do this, you know what I'm talking about and how annoying it is. I logged into my Amazon account and submitted a replacement request. They processed it and have a replacement pair on the way, free of charge. Submitted today, Wednesday, and they will be here on Friday. Amazon to the rescue.I may or may not buy another pair of Keen's for work boots. I might try a pair of Timberland or Red Wing next time.
