I just took it out of the package and measured it. The hood itself is 29.25 inches by 11.5 inches. It fits perfectly on my 37 gallon aquarium.

Q: how wide is the filter opening and do they have a cutout for heater?

The filter opening is approximately 6.5 in by 2.5 and the heater cutout is 1.25" x .50.
