MUST BE VERY CAREFUL USING THIS STUFF!
be very careful using this! very very thin layer or it will look cloudy and ruin your painting! It dries very fast so you can only do small areas at a time. takes for what seems forever to do a large painting. But has a great finish total matte so that when you cover an acrylic painting the amount of sun or light that hits it won't affect the way the paint looks no matter where you put it! I will only use this from now on

Needed varnish for repainted items and it delivered a great finish at good price
Ive recently picked up the hobby of repainting figures/props and a varnish is definitely needed to elevate some to the last step, especially if its for something touched a lot so the paint is protected. The first thing I used it on was to seal repaint of this toy flintlock and after 3-4? (bottle says use 2-3) coats you can see how it looks. When on display there's noticeable shine so the metallic painted parts look metal and the "wood" looks a bit polished like how real life ones are. However the finish isn't unnaturally shiny since this wasn't the high gloss variant so it doesn't look cartoony. I bought 4oz for $5 and that is a great price since even with extra coats I used it didn't drain the bottle much. I highly recommend picking this up especially if your environment isn't suitable for spray varnishing. The one "downside" is that since this is a water soluble/based varnish it won't be AS protective as an enamel lacquer varnish so if you need extra protection or something you'll be heavily touching and roughing up then dont use this since it'll wear out quicker. But for figures/props/minis and display the price to quality and ease of use is very hard to beat

Hi! For BJD Community!
I highly recommend this product as a sealant for BJD body blushing and face-up as finishing layer! If you want to use a sealant that adds more tooth for colours to grab on, I recommend applying "Liquitex MATT MEDIUM" for your makeup first. Then use Matte Varnish to seal it all when you're done to give a finished look!I also use Gloss Varnish from the same brand to give the lips and areas around the eyes extra shine!I apply it using the makeup sponge method. Don't drench your sponge in this and apply it on your doll! Dabbing is the preferred method...If you own an airbrush and prefer to use that, you can mix this solution with 40-50% water and use it with your airbrush.Hope this helps someone!Matte Medium for base + layersMatte Varnish as final coat to seal everythingGlass Varnish for lips and eye area!

Not quite what we were looking for but...
So we purchased this to go along with Musou black paint that our son asked for as a Christmas gift. This Musou paint is advertised as the blackest black that you can buy. But we had read that it scratched/damaged easily by itself so we thought a matte topcoat would help protect it. First of all, which our son was concerned about, I think it did change the look of the dark paint a bit. Second, it didn't provide as much prevention from scratching as we wanted. My son used it in painting his phone case, which does get a lot of wear. So, depending on what you want this for it might work better for you, it just wasn't right for our kind of "exacting" project. It does not have a strong smell which is nice and dries fairly quickly.

Great Matte Varnish For Miniatures
I use this for sealing miniatures. I use a Krylon gloss coat and then finish it with this matte varnish. I had a problem with the Krylon being tacky even after a few days of drying but this matte varnish actually removed the gloss and tacky feeling of the gloss coat. It is not durable enough to go on without a gloss coat however. I did some spot testing and perhaps if you do multiple thin coats that it would offer more chip protection without doing a gloss coat first. I live in a very humid area where I am lucky for it to ever drop below 80%, so having a paint on varnish is pretty much my only option. You do not need a thick application of this vanish, and you also need to make sure you do not overwork the varnish. I just soak my brush and try to dab it in other spot and then give it a good once over. Make sure you thoroughly clean your brush and just to be on the safe side use some junk brushes. I thought I cleaned my first brush really well and it was not enough to get the varnish residue off my brush and I just had to pitch it. Now I only use junk brushes which I still soak in water and then use some Masters Brush Cleaner on and I haven't had another problem yet. Do not thin this varnish with water though, make sure your brush is as dry as possible and once the varnish is on the miniature do not start messing with it after it has begun to dry.

Easy to use.
No way of telling if this will work until decades later, so I'm not sure how to review, but if you follow instructions on Liquitex's site, you should be fine.Tips:If you don't want brush strokes, use a spray. If you want subtle brush strokes, get nice brushes. If you want rough strokes, get cheap brushes.
